Mt.Everest

Intro
It was May 29, 1953, and the greatest thing
happened. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing
Norgay were first to reach the summit of the
great Mt. Everest. It was a beautiful sight.
With seeing everything on the mountain.
Hillary took pictures of
Norgay on the
summit. A lot of
people thought
climbing Mt. Everest
would be an
impossible challenge.
However, their
conquest of Mt.
Everest proves that if
you have a growth mindset you can
conquer anything.
Geography Behind Everest
The humongous
mountain also
known as Mt.
Everest splits Nepal
and Tibet. It is
27.9881 latitude
and 86.9253
longitude. It was
formed to be one of the highest peaks in
the world. It was formed in the Himalayan
mountain range. The tallest mountain in the
world, Mount Everest stands at 29,035 feet
high.
Long ago earthquakes caused earth’s
crust to crumble. The land underwater was
forced to push up and it formed the highest
peak. Mt.
Everest was
formed
millions of
years ago
even before
the first man
and woman were born.
The climbers
The climbers who made history are
Edmund Hillary,Tenzing Norgay, Tom
Whittaker, Erik Weihenmayer, Junko Tabei,
George Mallory, and Andrew Irvine.
Mallory (right) and Irvine (left)
tried to climb the mountain in
1924, but they got
caught in an
avalanche and both
died on the mountain. Mallory’s
body was found in 1999, but
Irvine's body is missing to this
day.
In 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing
Norgay decided to try to conquer Mt.
Everest. They were able to reach the
summit. Their names go
down in history as the
very first climbers to reach
the summit of the great
Mt. Everest.
Mt. Everest is still a goal of many
climbers. One inspirational example is Erik
Weihenmayer (below) who was
the first blind man
to climb the
mountain in 2001.
Junko Tabei (right)
was the first woman to climb
Everest. Tom Whittaker (left)
was the first disabled person
who reached the summit in
1998. These people achieved
their dreams even if it was hard.
How Everest Got Its Name
Everest was not known as Everest until
1841 when Sir George Everest made an
incredible discovery.
For hundreds of years, people wanted to
know how high the soaring mountain in the
Himalayas was. Well, Sir George Everest is
the man who found out. He recorded how
high it was. It is the tallest mountain in the
world standing at 29,035 feet high. And the
mountain was named after Sir George. It
has been
called Mt.
Everest
ever since.
Conclusion
Well, that will wrap up our tour of Mt.
Everest. But first I have some fun facts for
you. The tallest building in the world
compared to Mt. Everest. Which one do you
think is taller? Mt. Everest is 10 times as
large as that building. Even if you do not
want to climb everest you should still
pursue your dreams. If you have a growth
mindset it
will give
you a
chance to
achieve
your
dreams.
