Kindergarten Newsletter February and March 2017 The Skating program has already started and children are learning to skate very quickly! The last skating lesson is Tuesday, February 21st. The “Mystery Letter” activity has already started and students are taking home the bag with the “secret letter”. They love taking the bag home and they are excited to share the clues with the class. On February 13th, we are starting our “Home Reading Program” - Please return the book every week or as soon as your child is familiar with the vocabulary, some sight words, and know the story line of the book. Pancake breakfast on February 28th. Volunteers for the school event are needed. Progress Reports are going to be sent home on March 10, followed by the “Student-Led Conference”. There are no private parent-teacher interviews this time. However, if you feel the need to speak to your child’s teacher, please contact her to arrange for an appointment on another day During the “Celebration of Learning” at the “Student-Led Conference” on March 15 and 16 students will share things they have learn and done in the classroom. Appointments for a “shared” time can be booked on line from 4 p.m. on Friday March 10. Primavera – Spring Special Thanks To all the volunteers who are helping out with the skating program as well as the volunteers assisting with work in the school and those parents who are taking classroom work to do at home. How can I help my child? Reading to them, asking them about the story you read. For the “Home Reading” program, read the book to you child. Then ask your child to read it to you. Counting up from 1-10 and from 10-1 around the house in Spanish. Play games involving numbers like dice and/or taking turns. When reading words in story books and/or signs of any kind, ask your child for the name of the letter and the sound that the letter makes. For vowels, only the short sound is taught.
