PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR LANDSCAPE INSTITUTE BOARD MEMBER
AND TRUSTEE
Candidates and/or appointees should demonstrate the following:
ESSENTIAL

Understanding of the duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a trustee (c/f terms of reference
for the board);

Time to commit to the role;

Commitment to the Nolan principles;

Commitment to the overall aims and objectives of the Landscape Institute;

Willingness and gravitas to act as an ambassador and safeguard the Institute’s reputation,
ethos and values;

Strategic, visionary thinker used to working in changing circumstances;

Ability to bring fresh ideas to discussion;

Ability to ensure effective working between trustees, the secretariat staff, the council and
members;
 Experience of setting budgets and monitoring against established targets.
DESIRABLE

Previous involvement in the Landscape Institute or other professional bodies;

Appreciation of where landscape architecture fits with external and political agendas;

Highly developed communication skills;

Flexible attitude and enthusiasm to work as a team player;

Ability to build strong links with internal (Landscape Institute) and external players;

Experience and appreciation of the role of volunteers;

