give to the support of the parish.

June Prayer Petitions by Marge Loenser
June, such a lovely month! So many brides, so many graduates, so
many roses! It is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Love of my
life! On June 13th we celebrate our dear St. Anthony! How many things has
he found for me! How many times have I sung : “St Anthony, St Anthony,
please come around! Something is lost and must be found!” I always
thought St. Anthony was Italian, but then as a child I thought Jesus and all
his saints were Italian. However, St. Anthony was from Portugal and was a
great preacher. Tradition tells us that in a mystical experience he got to
hold the child Jesus in his arms. You will note that is how all his statues
are presented.
My dearest brothers and sisters, there are so many things we need to
pray for. We lift up our sick and suffering, our military, the souls of the
faithful, the addicts and alcoholics, and those looking for work, the
mentally ill, cancer victims, all those being treated for debilitating
diseases. (We know sometimes that treatment feels as bad as the disease.)
Jesus, we pray for all the needs of our brothers and sisters.
In closing, I would like to recommend a book that I'm reading by
Robert J. Dunne III, “909 Days That Changed the World.” It is a
chronological account of Jesus’ public ministry, using the four gospels as
references. The forward by Bishop David M. O'Connell ends with the
following statement, “This is a book that committed Christians need to
read. It offers a compelling guide for evangelization, ever ancient, ever
new (St Augustine).” We get to see thoroughly, the human side of Jesus
(our Lord God) traveling throughout Israel with His apostles, day by day,
sharing hardships and miracles. A must read! Till next month.
God bless and keep you. Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads!
Love in Jesus, Marge Loenser

th
The Vision of Pope Leo 13 on October 13, 1884
On October 13, 1884, exactly
33 years to the day of the great
Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, Pope
Leo XIII had a remarkable vision.
When the aged Pontiff had finished
celebrating Mass in his private
Vatican Chapel, attended by a few
Cardinals and members of the
Vatican staff, he suddenly stopped
at the foot of the altar. He stood
there for about 10 minutes, as if in a
trance, his face ashen white. Then,
going immediately from the Chapel
to his office, he composed the
prayer to St. Michael, with
instructions it be said after all Low
Masses everywhere. When asked
what had happened, he explained
that, as he was about to
leave the foot of the altar,
he suddenly heard
voices–two voices, one
kind and gentle, the other
guttural and harsh. They
seemed to come from
near the tabernacle. As
he listened, he heard the following
conversation. The guttural voice,
the voice of satan in his pride,
boasted to Our Lord.
satan: “I can destroy your
Church.”
The gentle voice of Our Lord:
“You can? Then go ahead and do so.”
satan: “To do so, I need more
time and more power.”
Our Lord: “How much time?
How much power?”
satan: “100 years, and a greater
power over those who will give
themselves over to my service.”
Our Lord: “You have the time,
you will have the power. Do with
them what you will.”
Remember that after the
vision, Pope Leo XIII
immediately wrote the
Prayer to St. Michael to
help us overcome the
devil in his quest.
Granting of Plenary Indulgence
Pope Francis has granted a plenary
indulgence opportunity for the 100th
anniversary of the Fatima apparitions
throughout the centennial year, from
the 27th of November 2016 till the 26th
of November 2017.
There are 3 ways to obtain the
indulgence, detailed in a statement from
the Fatima Shrine in Portugal. To obtain
the plenary indulgence, the faithful must
also fulfill the ordinary conditions by
going to Confession and Communion,
being interiorly detached from sin, and
praying for the intentions of the Holy
Father, along with one of the following:
1. Make a pilgrimage to the Fatima
shrine in Fatima and participate in a
celebration of prayer dedicated to the
Virgin. In addition, the faithful must
pray the Our Father, recite the Creed
and invoke the Mother of God.
2.
Pray before any statue of Our Lady of
Fatima (closest to St. Mark’s is the
shrine in front of St. Catharine’s in
Spring Lake) during the days of the
anniversary of the apparitions, the
13th of each month from May to
October 2017. The statue of Our Lady
of Fatima can be located for public
veneration in any church, oratory or
proper place. When visiting the
statue, the faithful must devoutly
participate in some celebration or
prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary.
3.
The third way to obtain a plenary
indulgence applies to people who,
because of age, illness or other
serious cause, are unable to get
around. These individuals can pray in
front of a statue of Our Lady of
Fatima and must spiritually unite
themselves to the jubilee celebrations
on the days of the apparitions, the
13th of each month, between May and
October 2017.They also must “offer to
merciful God with confidence,
through Mary, their prayers and
sufferings or the sacrifices they make
in their own lives.”
Fatima on July 13, 1917
On June 13, 1917, the three young Fatima seers, accompanied by
50 spectators, saw a brilliant flash and then Our Lady appeared over the
holm oak.
Lucia: What does Your Grace wish of me?
Our Lady: I want you to come here on the thirteenth of next month, to pray
the Rosary every day, and to learn to read. I shall later say what I want.
(Lucia asked for the healing of a sick person.)
Our Lady: If he converts, he will be healed within the year.
Lucia: I would like to ask you to take us to heaven.
Our Lady: Yes, I shall take Jacinta and Francisco soon, but you will remain
here for some time yet. Jesus wishes to use you in order to make me known
and loved. He wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the
world. I promise salvation to those who embrace it; and these souls will be
beloved of God like flowers arranged by me to adorn His throne.
Lucia: Will I stay here alone?
Our Lady: No, daughter. Does that make you suffer much? Do not be
dismayed. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart shall be your
refuge and the road that shall lead you to God.
