Exercise 1.
Describe the noun phrases in the following text, specifying a) the
HEAD and b) if they have PRE- or POST-MODIFIERS
The building was merely a Summer cottage, rendered
interesting to a stranger by its neat simplicity or the
beauty of the surrounding scene; and considerable
additions were necessary to make it a comfortable
family residence. St. Aubert felt a kind of affection for
every part of the fabric, which he remembered in his
youth, and would not suffer a stone of it to be removed,
so that the new building adapted to the style of the old
one, formed with it only a single and elegant residence

NPs and their Structure
Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called
Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy
man with hardly any neck, although he did have a
very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and
blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of
neck, which came in very useful as she spent so
much of her time craning over garden fences, spying
on the neighbors. The Dursleys had a small son
called Dudley and in their opinion there was no finer
boy anywhere.
