Frequently Asked Dog Fence Questions SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 1) What are the main differences among the Havahart® Wireless Radial-Shape2 Wireless Dog Fence, Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence and Fence Free Underground Dog Fence Systems? 2) Can these Dog Fences be used indoors to keep pets out of certain rooms/areas of the house? 3) Are these Dog Fences portable? 4) Is equipment not included with the System needed to install the Fence? 1) What are the main differences among the Havahart® Wireless Radial-Shape2 Wireless Dog Fence, Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence and Fence Free Underground Dog Fence Systems? · The Radial-Shape2 Wireless Dog Fence creates a circular Fence Boundary up to 400 feet in all directions. · The Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence allows the creation of a Custom Boundary up to 500 feet in any direction to fit to the unique contours of the property, eliminating the limitations of a circular fence. · The Fence Free Underground Dog Fence keeps the dog within the boundaries of the yard and provides the maximum playing area. The Fence Free Underground System requires that a wire be buried, and covers 1/3 acre, but coverage can extend to 13 acres with the purchase of additional Havahart Accessory kits. Havahart Wireless Dog Fences are the largest dog containment areas available in the wireless fence market. Optimal results are dependent on an unobstructed direct line of sight between the Fence Boundary and the system Controller/Bases. 2) Can these Dog Fences be used indoors to keep pets out of certain rooms/areas of the house? No. These Wireless Fences are for outdoor use only. 3) Are these Dog Fences portable? The Radial-Shape2 and Custom-Shape Wireless Fences are completely portable. However, the dog must be retrained every time the fence location moves. All components and the Instruction Manual should travel with the System. Regarding the Custom-Shape Wireless Fence, the new location must meet the requirement that the 4 Bases be positioned near power outlets and are a minimum of 20 feet from each other. The RadialShape2 Wireless Fence does not have this requirement. The Fence Free Underground Dog Fence is not portable. 4) Is equipment not included with the System needed to install the Fence? Each System includes all necessary equipment for installation, so the only additional items needed are a wireless Internet connection and a computer for the Custom-Shape Wireless Fence. PROPERTY TYPES 1) What types of properties work best with these Dog Fences? 2) Do these Dog Fences work in homes with small yards, and/or neighbors and roads in close proximity? 3) Can just a portion of a property be enclosed? 4) How do these Dog Fences work with ordinances and/or leash law covenants? 1) What types of properties work best with these Dog Fences? Since the signal is communicated wirelessly for the Radial-Shape2 and Custom-Shape Systems, obstructions such as aluminum siding, heavily wooded lots, heavy landscaping and outbuildings will interfere with the signal and prevent a consistent Boundary from being established. If these obstructions are present, the Fence Free Underground System is recommended. 2) Do these Dog Fences work in homes with small yards, and/or neighbors and roads in close proximity? If attempting to use a Wireless Fence, homes with small yards, and neighbors and/or roads in close proximity will result in a smaller Fence Boundary and restricted Roaming Area as it will coincide with the neighbor’s property line or the road. If the Roaming Area required is substantially limited, the Fence Free Underground System is recommended. 3) Can just a portion of a property be enclosed? No. Both the Radial-Shape2 and Custom-Shape Wireless Fences need to make a full enclosure to secure the yard, so it would not be possible to enclose just a portion of a yard. 4) How do these Dog Fences work with ordinances and/or leash law covenants? Havahart Wireless Dog Fences are an ideal solution to leash law covenants because they help owners to keep dogs safely on their properties. Because the fences are invisible, they do not impact any ordinances that restrict physical structures in communities. FENCE FACTORS 1) What makes Havahart Wireless Fences different than other dog fences? 2) What objects in the home and yard might cause problems or interfere with the Fence Boundary? 3) How does the Collar communicate with the Controller (Radial-Shape2), the Bases (CustomShape) and the Transmitter (Fence Free)? 4) Why must the Collar Battery be recharged every one to three days? 1) What makes Havahart Wireless Fences different than other dog fences? Simply put, better technology. Havahart closed the gaps and took advantage of opportunity in the market by refining communications and updating the standard technology. The result is improved communication between the System and Collars used in Havahart Wireless fencing systems; larger Roaming Areas; In-Home Boundary Breach Alerts; safety features; two-way communication; wider Trigger Zone; and Rechargeable Batteries. The Fence Free Underground System features an All- Digital System and In-Home Boundary Breach Alerts. 2) What objects in the home and yard might cause problems or interfere with the Fence Boundary? Objects that can interfere with your Wireless Fence include: mirrors, microwaves, home appliances, electric power meters, air conditioning units, metal screened porches, metal downspouts, trees, large bushes and above-ground pools and sheds. These objects can affect the shape of the Trigger Zone and make it slightly different than desired. Placing the Radial-Shape2 Controller or Custom-Shape Bases at least three feet away from these objects should minimize any undesired effects. Factors that will cause considerable interference are aluminum siding, densely wooded lots and heavily landscaped properties. If any obstructions cause too much attenuation, the Fence Free Underground System is recommended. 3) How does the Collar communicate with the Controller (Radial-Shape2), the Bases (CustomShape) and the Transmitter (Fence Free)? · The Radial-Shape2 features a Wireless Controller that broadcasts a signal 10 times per second and maintains a constant connection with the dog. If the dog breaches the Trigger Zone the Controller sends a command to the Collar to deliver a correction. · The Custom-Shape Wireless Fence features four Bases, which speak to each other to identify the exact location of the dog in the yard. If the dog ventures close to the Fence Boundary, the Bases communicate with the Collar to deliver a correction. · The Fence Free Underground System features a Transmitter that communicates with the Collar. When the dog reaches the edge of the Fence Boundary, a warning tone is sounded. If the dog continues toward the Boundary, the correction will be administered. 4) Why must the Collar Battery be recharged every one to three days? The continuous communication between the Collar and the Bases requires the Collar Battery to be charged every one to three days to ensure uninterrupted communication. Battery life depends on the activity of the dog and the length of time the Collar is on dog. DOG REQUIREMENTS 1) 2) 3) 4) How old should a dog be before using the Fence to contain him? How many dogs can be contained with one Fence? Can Collars be used on very small dogs or very large dogs? What sort of training is recommended to complement the Dog Fence? 1) How old should a dog be before using the Fence to contain him? The Havahart Wireless Dog Fences are designed for dogs older than six months. 2) How many dogs can be contained with one Fence? Both the Radial-Shape2 and Custom-Shape Havahart Wireless Fences work with a maximum of two dogs. The Fence Free Underground System can accommodate an unlimited number of dogs. 3) Can Collars be used on very small dogs or very large dogs? The Havahart Wireless Collar can be used on smaller dogs as long as they meet the age and weight requirements of being older than six months and weighing more than eight pounds. Another consideration is that the Wireless Collars for both systems weigh 4.2 ounces. The Radial-Shape2 and Custom-Shape Wireless Collars fit dogs with neck sizes from 14 to 26 inches. The RadialShape2 also has a small dog version that fits neck sizes of 10 to 17 inches. The Fence Free Underground Collar fits dogs with neck sizes up to 30 inches. 4) What sort of training is recommended to complement the Dog Fence? Proper training of the dog with this system is a crucial element to ensure the safe and successful operation of your wireless fence. In addition to the training program included with the system, Havahart offers additional complementary training resources such as a training manual, interactive guide and video. It is important to incorporate positive reinforcement and treats with the training program to help the dog in understanding the Fence Boundary and corresponding corrections. CORRECTION 1) How is a dog corrected with a Wired or Wireless Collar? 2) Does this correction harm the dog? 3) If a dog manages to escape from the Roaming Area, will the Collar continue to correct him? 1) How is a dog corrected with a Wired or Wireless Collar? Unlike competitive products, Havahart Wireless Dog Fences allow the dog’s owner to select either a tone correction or a choice of five Static Corrections. In order to keep the dog safe and reinforce training, the correction experienced on the Wireless Collar is not constant but is a repetitive pulse. 2) Does this correction harm the dog? No. Mild static correction is similar to static electricity, which will get the dog’s attention but not cause harm. If static correction is not desired, the correction level can be set to Tone-Only. It is highly recommended that the training program begin with the Collar set to Tone-Only and then the owner can choose the correction that best fits the dog’s temperament. 3) If a dog manages to escape from the Roaming Area, will the Collar continue to correct him? The Collar’s Safety Time-Out feature stops the correction cycle after 30 seconds. After the correction cycle times out, the dog will NOT be corrected for returning to the Roaming Area. The Collar will revert to the normal operating mode only when the dog is back inside the Roaming Area.
