Intellectual Property Rights Basic Orientation Seminar
The Intellectual Property Rights Basic Orientation Seminar was held on July 28, 2015,
7:00AM to 11:00AM at the University of Perpetual Help System Performing Arts. It
main objective is to disseminate best practices on intellectual property rights as they
apply to research output and product development. It was attended by 83 participants
from various colleges and departments.
The resource speaker for the seminar on Intellectual Property Rights was Mr. Marlo
Q. Carag, Area Manager of Intellectual Property Fields operations unit. He shared that
Intellectual property rights (IPR) are important contributors to competitiveness. These
rights, including patents, trademarks, design rights and copyrights, can serve as
incentives for research and development, for innovation, and can help users identify
trusted producers. Moreover, he discussed that any original, creative expression that one
creates (and fix into a permanent medium) is covered by copyright, giving the one who
creates control over his/her work. The Open Forum which followed the resource
speaker’s speech was actively participated by the delegates.
