Ariana: Working on new acquisitions of photograph albums of Government Tourist Department
photos of Northland, Rotourua/Bay of Plenty & Tuhoe as well as Fiordland, taken around 1900-1904.
Also working on an album by Leslie George Kelly of battle and pā sites in various locations around
Trish: Has been on interview panels and spoke of relationship buildinng
Kathryn Oxborrow: Thesis (will elaborate later)
Te Paea:Local Government supercity proposal.TWOA Whakatane: Te Paea is speaking at a hui there
about TRW. School of Info Management at Vic. Did a talk at LIANZA (Wellington regional hui), APLM
(Aotearoa Public Library Managers’ Forum) – Judith Waaka is the TRW rep. Also Lulu is the rep on
Governance Group of the OPNZ (Open Polytech NZ)
Ann:Eddie has a draft plan for the training programme for the Māori Subject Headings. Working on
Waitangi events (the week leading up to Waitangi Day). Also the Anniversary of the arrival of the
ship the Adelaide (in to Wellington) on 7 March.
Agenda items:
1. TRW Hui-ā-tau in Gisborne. LIANZA has signed a partnership agreement and supplied
funding support fo the hui. It was suggested that our retired members are invited back to
our hui-ā-tau, and also we acknowledge those who have passed away.
2. Contributing to the TRW pānui: Our region is getting good contribution, encouragement for
other members to contribute who don’t usually contribute
3. Awards. Encouraged to nominate people for the Robin Hakopa and Meri Mygind awards by
Dec 31.
4. Updates for region. Need to schedule four hui for next year.Suggestion that we have our hui
in various locations around the region, including Otaki – maybe during the Māori Film
Festival? there will be some ATL/National Library events between Christmas and New Year
this year.
5. Kathryn Oxborrow: Thesis update. Started her PhD in February, relating to the Professional
Development of librarians in Mātauranga Māori. Anne Goulding and Spencer Lilley are her
supervisors. Her research questions are:
 Are Library Professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand taking steps to learn about Mātauranga
Māori in the context of professional practice and if so, how?
 Do Library Professionals’ perceptions/beliefs about the relevance of Mātauranga Māori to their
professional practice impact upon the extent to which they undertake professional
development in this area?
 What are the perceived and actual impacts for Library Professionals of undertaking
professional development in the area of Mātauranga Māori?
 Is awareness of and/or competence in Mātauranga Māori a valued quality in the eyes of
employers in the New Zealand library sector?
6. IILF 2015 in Manitoba, Canada. First week of August. Can register interest now. There will be
a TRW bid for the 20th anniversary in 2019 for Waipapa Marae, Auckland. Te Paea will share
information about the programme for IILF.
7. Also an update about IFLA. Agenda to become an indigenous section ofIFLA (currently a
special interest group). This can act as a political arm to action what comes out of IILF. Next
year IFLA is in Capetown in August 2015. Raewyn, Sheeanda, Te Paea are speaking about
Indigenous literacy beyond bilingual signage and collection development (looking at
competencies).
We then had a shared lunch to celebrate the end of the year.
