Australian- American soprano, Robyn Marie Lamp is quickly gaining national recognition for her beautiful robust voice and captivating stage presence. In a recent concert, Robyn was described as “displaying a wonderful covered sound that blossomed richly as the music ascended.” (Considine, The Boston Musical Intelligencer.) Robyn was recently seen in New York as a Bel Canto Young Artist with the Caramoor Music Festival in the title role of Lucrezia Borgia. In the fall of 2014, Robyn will return to Sarasota Opera to cover the role of Nedda in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. Robyn has sung many of Mozart’s leading ladies, including Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira, Elettra, and Susanna, as well as Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohéme, the dragonfly from Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges, and many others. In January 2012, Robyn placed third in the Gulf Coast Region of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was also a winner of the Louisiana District that same year. Competitions in which Robyn has placed include the Lois Alba Aria Competition, Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year, Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, Just Love to Sing and our very own Artist Series Concerts Scholarship Competition. Ms. Lamp holds a Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Music from Florida Atlantic University. She is currently in the voice studio of Manny Perez. A meeting not to be missed! President’s Message From Jane Riggin Dear FRIENDS, It is hard to believe that our next meeting is just before Thanksgiving. Be sure to join us at our meeting on Nov. 20th - we will have exciting news concerning our Gala "Hooray for Hollywood" and wonderful entertainment provided by soprano, Robyn Marie Lamp. I hope to see you all both at the meeting and the Gala, fulfilling our goal of "each one bring one", or two or ten! The Artist Series Concerts Season is off to a great start. The ‘not to be missed’ Soirees in October were just outstanding and the Classical Recital Series opened with the Morgenstern Trio. The Pops Series is next up with Klea Blackhurst, a Broadway actress and singer performing ”Everything That Traffic Will Allow” - A Tribute to Ethel Merman. Personally, I can't wait. Now is the time of year when everything seems to speed up. It is holiday time and our lives are busy and full of lists. It is also a time to remember and enjoy friends and family and participate in all the Season has to offer. Since it is a time for gift giving, may I suggest that tickets to our concerts and events make a much appreciated gift. Don't forget "Broadway Holiday" featuring Will and Anthony Nunziata and Gloria Musicae on Dec. 20thand 21st or chose any one of our other fabulous concerts and events in the 2014-2015 season. It is so terrific to be a part of this wonderful organization. I thank you all for allowing me to be your President. Know that when I give thanks this year for all of my blessings in my life, all of you and FRIENDS will be high up on that list. So Happy Holidays. Enjoy the Season and don't forget to Support Help Attend Reach out and Energize! Fondly, Jane SAVE THE DATE January 9th—11th, 2015 INTERNATIONAL EDVARD GRIEG FESTIVAL The GRIEG FESTIVAL is a three-day celebration to honor the composer, Edvard Grieg, with presentations and performances by internationally-acclaimed scholars and performers, and an international competition for young musicians that offers $12,000 and concert tours in Norway for winners. Would you like to be a HOST to the contestants in our upcoming Grieg Festival? There are six young people hoping to stay with a host family from January 8th and leaving on the 12th.
