CHARLIE IN THE LION CAGE
Charlie is at a circus. A donkey is standing by some bales of hay. The
donkey sees Charlie. The donkey is angry. The donkey chases Charlie.
Charlie is afraid. He runs.
Charlie runs up some steps. He opens a door. He goes inside.
Charlie is inside a cage. A lion is in the cage. Charlie is surprised.
The lion is sleeping.
Charlie wants to leave the cage. He tries to open the cage door. The
bar falls. The door is locked. Charlie cannot open it.
Charlie waves a handkerchief. He wants someone to help him.
Charlie see a small door. He raises the small door. He
wants to leave the cage, because he is afraid of the lion.
Charlie looks inside another cage. A tiger is inside. Charlie quickly
shuts the door.
Charlie sees a tray. Water is in the tray.
A small dog comes. It barks and barks.
Charlie is afraid the lion will wake up. He begs the dog to stop
barking.
A woman comes to help Charlie.
Charlie asks her to open the cage door. She is very afraid. She faints.
The woman lies on the ground.
The lion yawns.
Charlie splashes water on the woman. He wants the woman to wake
up.
The lion gets up. It smells Charlie. The lion is not interested in
Charlie. It does not bite him.
Charlie feels his body. He thinks, "Did the lion bite me? Am I OK?"
The lion lies down and rolls over.
The woman wakes up. The sign says KEEP AWAY
DANGEROUS.
The woman unlocks the door.
The woman looks at Charlie and says, "Come
out!"
Charlie feels brave. He thinks the lion will
not hurt him. He wants to show the woman
The lion suddenly roars at Charlie! Charlie is very afraid.
Charlie runs out of the cage.
The woman locks the cage door.
Charlie is afraid the lion will chase him. He runs to a pole.
Charlie is at the top of the pole.
Charlie has fun.
The woman says, "Come down!"
Charlie slides down the pole.
Charlie is now safe. He and the woman are both happy.
