Public Credit
The government assumes state debt in times of public danger and war. Sate debt used
to promote the respectability of America. The benefits of public credit are: trade is extended
because there is more available money, more capital can be extended to agriculture and
manufactures, the interest of money will decrease.
National Bank
The government wanted a central bank in order to strengthen the nation. It would
help support troops for common defense and relinquish public debt. Hamilton said the
bank was constitutional because the Constitution authorizes Congress to regulate US
property.
Views in France/Great Britain
The United States should impose taxes on luxuries from Great Britain and other
European countries. The US became economically dependent on Great Britain again.
Alien and Sedition Acts
The Alien Acts focused on those people who had yet to become naturalized citizens.
The residency requirement was extended 14 years, the government was given the
power to deport immigrants who posed a threat to the country during war or times
of peace. The Sedition Act made it against the law to criticize the government. The
Federalists believed these were constitutional acts that emphasized the strong central
government.
Manufacturing/Agriculture
Federalists proposed this aspect of the plan to aid industries. High tariffs were put
in place to protect American industries from foreign competition. Federalists hoped to
break their manufacturing dependence on Great Britain.
