Danziger - "Dan" Flower Farm, Beit Dagan, Israel
BioFlora Inc., St. Thomas, Ontario
Gavriel Danziger, Danziger - "Dan" Flower Farm, Beit Dagan, Israel
Variety used for comparison: ‘DANCOP25’ (Scopia Gulliver Snow)
Summary: The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the stem of ‘DANOVA780’ is weak to medium while it is medium to
strong on the stem of ‘DANCOP25’. The internodes on the shoot of ‘DANOVA780’ are shorter than those on the shoot of
‘DANCOP25’. The corolla tube of the flower of ‘DANOVA780’ is narrower than the corolla tube of ‘DANCOP25’. The
opening to the corolla tube is laterally compressed for ‘DANOVA780’ while it is round for ‘DANCOP25’. The pubescence on
the outer side of the corolla tube of ‘DANOVA780’ is of medium density while that of ‘DANCOP25’ is dense.
Description:
PLANT: horizontal growth habit, medium to dense degree of branching
STEM: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF BLADE: simple form, broad ovate, incisions of margin present, dentate margin, medium number of teeth or lobes, no
variegation, brown green (closest to RHS 137B) on upper side, sparse pubescence
INFLORESCENCE: axillary position, cluster type
PEDUNCLE: thin
FLOWER: free arrangement of corolla lobes, strong degree of lobing, medium to strong undulation of margin of corolla
lobes
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): white (RHS NN155C)
COROLLA TUBE: funnel shape, laterally compressed at opening
COROLLA TUBE (INNER SIDE): yellow to orange
COROLLA TUBE (OUTER SIDE): medium density pubescence, medium length hairs
ANTHER: positioned slightly above tube opening
Origin and Breeding: ‘DANOVA780’ originated from an open pollinated cross conducted by breeder Gavriel Danziger in
Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel in March 2010. The cross was made between the female parent, an unpatented seedling
coded cv. 09-1202, and pollen from an unknown male parent. In November 2010, a single plant was selected based on
growth habit, branching characteristics, plant vigour, floriforousness and flower size in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel. In
December 2010, ‘DANOV780’ was first asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel.
Tests and Trials: The comparative trial for ‘DANOVA780’ was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2015 at
BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All
plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 13, 2015. Observations and measurements
were taken from 10 plants of each variety on May 20, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal
Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
