Science This term we shall be looking at different types of Materials. This is continued from our Rocks and Soils unit last term. We shall focus on: Classifying and describing materials. Hard and soft materials. Natural and Man-made materials. Materials used by the Romans and their purposes. History and Geography We will be learning about Early Rome and their influences (Etruscans and Greeks), how the Romans built their Empire and their leaders (Augustus and Caesar). We shall also be developing our map skills by studying which parts of the world were in the Roman Empire. We will discover how the Romans lived their daily lives. Maths Roman Timeline, Mosaics Symmetry & Numerals. Describing and classifying 2D, 3D shapes and Prisms. Measure and compare capacities in litres and millilitres. Use units of time: days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Organise data into charts, tables and graphs. Multiplication, Subtraction, Addition and Division. Problem Solving. Music Inspire Days/Activities A visit to the Roman Baths. Roman TASC Day (Week 5). Art/ DT In Art, we will be creating our own Roman helmuts and shields, designing and making Roman Mosaics and Clay pots. We shall be taking our inspiration from traditional Roman architecture and murals and looking at how art changed over the course of the Roman reign. PE ICT In Games this term, we shall be learning how to play hockey. We will be developing our team skills as well as improving control and technique. In dance, we will be learning some traditional Roman dance as well as creating our own compositions to perform to the class. We will be learning how to change font, size and colour of text, highlight an area of text, add bullet points and move text to the centre or right of the page. We will also be using power point to present our learning as well as using the internet to research the Romans. Continuing Cello and Violin Lessons. Learning ‘Mamma Mia’ for our School CD. Researching music from the Romans and composing our own Roman Music. RE: Sikhism We wille be finding out: Who founded Sikhism and where did it begin? The life of Guru Nanak – qualities and teachings. The Khalsa and the 5K’s. The significance of the Guru Granth Sahib. The Gurdwara and the Langar. We shall also be learning about Roman Religion and the different Gods and Goddesses that they worshipped. Children’s Initial Questions: Who were the Romans and where did they come from? What did they wear? What did they eat and drink? Did they have toilets? Where did they bathe? What did they do for us?
