Term 2 - Week 2
From the Principal’s Office
A Special Day!
Today was a significant day in our school year at Cambooya
State School. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout to
our ANZAC service in the park and it was very special to have
such support from veterans, students, staff, parents and members of the community.
We then moved to the opening of the honour boards which
has been a school project through term one. The results of
this project are quite stunning. The six boards illustrate the
legacy of former Cambooya residents who have served our
country during war. The illustrations have been designed initially by the students and were then used to complete a mural
with the design work being done by the students. This also
involved a lot of research into the lives of the service personnel. These designs were then sketched out and finished by
Mrs K and her artistic helpers. It was fantastic to be able to
unveil these in front of our special guests, members of 3 of the
families represented and a good section of the school community.
Events such as these do not occur without the support of a
wide range of community members, and they both stand as
great examples of community events, more than school
events. I want to publicly thank the community for making
my first ANZAC Day at Cambooya a special one.

Health Plans—important Information
P&C News
Health plans are documents which provide the school with
directions or guidelines to support students with specialised
health needs. This information is critical for our staff to respond effectively in the event of a medical incident.
Book Club: Book club is due back by Friday 5th May.
There are 3 types of health plans used in schools, dependent on the student’s health conditions and needs:
Action Plan – For students with Anaphylaxis and
Asthma
These plans are valid for 12 months only. Contact your
GP for an updated Action Plan.
Next meeting: Next meeting will be held on Tuesday 16th
May at 7pm in the library.
Mother’s Day: We will be holding a mother’s day stall on
the 12th May with gifts ranging in price from 50c to approx.
$5. Students are welcome to bring some money to make a
purchase on the day. We will send out reminders closer to
the day. We are looking for donations of items that can be
sold at the stall, donations can be dropped off at the office
or at the uniform shop on Thursdays. We will be holding a
working bee a little closer to the day also to make some gifts
for the stall. There will also be a raffle, tickets will go out
soon.
Individual Health Plan (IHP) – Daily guideline for the
routine management of a student’s health condition. This plan is developed by our State Schools
Registered Nurse (SSRN) in consultation with the
school staff, parent/carer and medical professionals.
Biggest Morning Tea: This year we will be participating in
the Cancer council’s biggest morning tea again. All home
bake proceeds for the month of May will be donated to the
cancer council. Last year we raised over $170 and would love
to be able to donate the same this year. All you have to do is
purchase a piece or two of home bake from tuckshop during
the month of May. Thank you for your contribution.
Emergency Health Plan (EHP) – Provides concise
step-by-step directions of how to safely manage a
predictable medical emergency specific to certain
chronic health conditions and the correct use of
intervention or emergency medication. These can
be completed by our Education Queensland Registered Nurse and qualified health practitioner.
Dollarmites: Remember to bring your school banking this
Thursday!
Our school has identified students who may require plans
or updated plans. We will be sending letters home to these
parents/carers in the near future. If you believe that your
child has a medical condition that the school should be
aware of, please discuss this with your GP and contact the
school for further information.

CLASS WRAP
Prep - What a great week we had last week. The children are settling in very well to their new routine and working hard. This week
there will be no homework until Wednesday due to me being away today and the Anzac Day on Tuesday. The children impressed me
with their knowledge about Anzac Day and we enjoyed discussing the various aspects of Anzac Day. Morning Reading is going very
well and the children are loving reading a new book each day. Our term meeting will be held this Thursday at 3.15. ( Sorry about
Wednesday my son has work on this day) I look forward to running through our term plan and giving you some hints and tips about
reading. Have a great week Marion Tash and Marlene.
Year 1 - Welcome to week 2. This week is going to be a busy and exciting week for everyone. On Monday, we have had the ANZAC Service and the
walkway opening. Tuesday is a Public Holiday. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we will be starting reading groups in class and before
school reading. The teacher’s Wednesday morning meeting has now been moved to 8.30am that means home reading can run on a Wednesday
morning from 8.50am onwards. For the home-reading program to run smoothly, it is important that we have as many parent helpers as possible
and I appreciate the large amount of helpers that we had during Term 1. In English this week, we are learning to identify details of when, where
and how in sentences and we will be building on our knowledge of literal and inferred meaning in picture books. In Maths, we will be look at
counting sequences, number patterns and how to represent multiples of 10. Last week in Science, we explored different type of materials, their
properties and their uses. This week, we will continue exploring the properties materials and what actions we can do to physically change a material. As many of you know, I am getting married this weekend. I would just like to let everyone know that I will be away as of the 28th of April (this
Friday) and will return on the 15th of May (Monday, Week 5). If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to see me beforehand. I hope that
everyone has a fantastic week 3 and 4 and I can’t wait to see everyone when I get back. Wishing everyone a wonderful week! Miss Leven and the
Year 1s.
Year 2 - Welcome to week 2 of term 2! This week is a busy week where we begin our Reading group rotations, Words their Way rotations and
Homework! We also officially begin our before school reading this week. Today we have our ANZAC day ceremony with the opening of our
‘Cambooya Walk Way’. A huge shout out to Mrs Kraschnefski for her amazing effort with the murals, you have done a fabulous, fabulous job! Being ANZAC day tomorrow, it is a public holiday, so there will be no school. This week in Maths, we will be practising patterns and revising what
we have learnt before our assessment on Friday. In English, we will be continuing to explore characters, nouns, compound sentences, synonyms
and antonyms. The year 2’s are very excited to use their knowledge of synonyms and antonyms to change characters like Cinderella into the opposite of Cinderella. This week we also start Science, we will be learning about push and pull in toys. The year 2’s and I would also like to wish Miss
Leven all the best for Saturday, as it is her wedding day and we can’t wait to hear all about your holiday when you come back as Mrs Dwyer! Hope
everyone has a lovely week! From Miss Brigden and the Year 2s.
Year 3 - Welcome to Week 2! Another short week ahead, with ANZAC day public holiday tomorrow. Today the school commemorates the ANZACs and all service people who served in war with the community ANZAC service, and then in our Commemorative Walkway Project unveiling
ceremony back at school. Homework will also begin today, as well as spelling sorts. Reading groups will begin on Wednesday also. In Maths this
week, we work on addition and subtraction strategies in 3-digit numbers, adding on 8 and 9, and exploring the language of addition and subtraction word problems. In English this week, we continue to read Matty Forever, and unpack the meaning behind the author’s use of language to
describe characters and shape the readers’ views of characters. We will practise verb and noun use in texts as well. Have a lovely day off tomorrow
and a wonderful week ahead! Mrs K and the Year 3s!
Year 4/5 - Welcome to Week 2! This week will be very busy with ANZAC services today, ANZAC day public holiday tomorrow and back into our
work for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our Year 5’s will be starting to look at preparation for NAPLAN in Week 4, it is very important that we
remind our students that they need to need to do their best and remain calm for NAPLAN tests. We have been finishing off a few assessments
from Term 1, then we will be back in full swing will all of our key learning areas, including HASS this term. This term for Maths, we have started
Mad Minute with all students focussing on addition and subtraction. Our English assessments from Term 1 have shown us that we need to learn
more about spelling, grammar and punctuation, so this will be a big focus in our classroom this term. I would like to congratulate all of our students for starting Term 2 with excellent focus and behaviour, earning 7 class gotchas during our first week of school, well done! Have a great week
– Miss Leece
Year 5/6 - Congratulations to all of the students on their wonderful behaviour our Anzac service today. You represented your school and families
well. Congratulations also to the students chosen to be class representatives on the student council for this term. For year 5 we have Tennille and
Zane. In year 6 we have George and Jack Jessup. This term we are doing our first unit from the new HASS curriculum. This subject covers History,
Geography, Civics and Economics. The unit we are doing is called People and the Environment. We will be examining some of the characteristics
of Europe and North America to see how landforms and climate can influence people and places. Our Science unit for this term is Energy
and Electricity. We will be investigating the different forms of energy, sources of energy and electrical circuits. Homework will be going home today. Joan Erbacher and Kelly Robertson
The Arts
I’m very excited as the Commemorative Walkway Project has its big unveiling today as part of our ANZAC service. The children and volunteers
have put so much work and learning into making the Project happen and the class boards look amazing! Come and see if you can find part of your
own painting in the murals! I’m also very proud of all my students, as each class learnt about a service person last term and connected with the sacrifice and hardships that they went through. The students have really embraced this project and learnt a great
deal about the war efforts that went on in World War 1 & 2.
