Central High School is part of the Knox
County School system and is located in the
Fountain City community of Knoxville. Central
is the oldest public high school in the district,
established in 1906. Central serves students
in the Lonsdale, Christenberry and Rifle
Range communities in addition to Fountain
City. Students enter from four area middle
schools: Gresham, Northwest, Powell, and
Whittle Springs. The Central Bobcats are
proud of over 100 years of academic
excellence.
Economically Disadvantaged
Central High School is a community school
within the Knox County School system. This
means that all students receive free
breakfast and lunch at school. Therefore,
there is currently not an accurate way to

district at the high school level. Approximately,
9.38% of our students are ELL. Central is also
the fastest growing ELL program in the district.

Great Schools Partnership
Great Schools Partnership is a strong ally to Central
High School. They provide daytime tutors from local
colleges for Central students. They fund an online
academy to assist students in recovering credit or
taking courses for college credits known as the
Blended Online Academy. An academic summer
camp for students in the community is in the works
for the summer of 2016 through the funding of
Great Schools Partnership.
Notables
 In 2016, Central had 9 AP Scholars, 3 AP Scholars
with Honors & 2 AP Scholars with Distinction.
 Piloted SIFE (Students with Interrupted Formal
Education) Program in the 15-16 school year. 88%
of these students were able to move into the regular ELL program at the end of the first semester.
 DECA placed first in Accounting Application at
State.
 National Art Honors Society had an art show at the
Knoxville Museum of Art. The exhibit has received
positive publicity around the community.
 Two students placed 1st in their category at an art
show at the Tennessee Valley Fair.
