Monitoring progress: 1 Getting an overview of your results TITLE SCREEN Hi, I’m Andrea. I’m about to check how close I am to gaining ANDREA to CAMERA endorsements in my courses. The tool on this webpage is pretty cool. Come on, I’ll show you how it works. 2 When you log in, the first page you’ll see is the My School Entries and Results page. Here’s mine. As you can see, entries and results are grouped by year, and within each year, by course. If I click on a course title, I can see more information, including how I’m going towards getting an endorsement in the course. So, let’s take a look at Mathematics 103. The Course Details page lists my entries and results. It also has a table summarising my credits so I can see exactly how well I’m doing. The standards I’m entered in are broken down into internally assessed standards over here on the left, and externally assessed standards on the right. As my internally assessed results are reported, the credit summary will update. That way I’ll be able to see how many internally assessed merit and excellence credits I have so far. Over here I can see whether I’ve met the 3 credit internal assessment rule and, if I haven’t, how many credits I’ve got left to do so. That’s shown right here. Available credits are the ones that have no results reported yet. In these green boxes on the far right, I can see my progress toward the 14 credit total and how many credits are still available. Just remember, the externally assessed credit totals won’t be updated until after the results are released in January. Checking out what endorsements are possible Okay, let’s dig a bit deeper and find out what endorsements are possible for the course. To do this, just click on the link down here, pretty easy huh. This takes us to a screen which is similar, but has some additional features. Scrolling down reveals this statement, which tells me the best endorsement I can gain in the course, if one is possible. And, there’s a progress bar diagram which shows the progress I’ve made toward endorsement and what results I need for my remaining entries to meet each of the endorsement rules. These pale pink squares represent externally assessed credits. The pale orange represent internally assessed credits. Each square stands for one credit. None of my results have been reported so far for this course, so all the credits are showing as available. The good news is, there are enough available credits for me to get an endorsement with excellence at Level 1. As my school reports my internally assessed results, the progress bar diagram will update to show my progress. And I’m going to track it closely, I want that endorsement! Some useful examples Okay, now let’s check out another of my courses which has had some internally assessed results reported. History 102 here we come. I got a Merit worth 4 credits and an Excellence, also worth 4 credits. Both results will help me get an endorsement with merit, so the left arrow has been pushed along toward the 14 credit target. Now I only need 6 credits more to reach 14. The Excellence result will help me get an endorsement with excellence, but the Merit result won’t, so the credits for the merit result are greyed out on the excellence endorsement bar. This pushes the right arrow toward the target. If the left arrow reaches the 14 credit target before the right arrow crosses the target line, I’ll have met the 14 credit rule. These ticks show I’ve met the 3 credit internal assessment rule for both merit and excellence endorsement, but I still need to meet the 3 credit external assessment rule. The pale pink box shows I have 12 available externally assessed credits I can use for that. And this pale green box shows I have 16 credits available to meet the 14 credit total rule. Now let’s look at a course where all of my internally assesed results have been reported, English 102. This will show me exactly what results I need in my external assessments to get an endorsement. Okay, I can still get an Endorsement with excellence, but I need to get excellence for 11 of the remaining 12 credits. Pretty tough, but I only need 3 more credits at merit or excellence to meet the external assessment rule. And, I only need 5 more credits to meet the 14 credit rule and get a merit endorsement. Predicting your results Staying on the same screen, I can also predict my results for my remaining internal and external entries and see what that means for course endorsement. I can easily test out different possibilities; nothing we enter here is saved, because only the school can record my internally assessed results and only NZQA can record my externally assessed results. If I don’t remove them, the statement about what endorsement is possible may not be correct. First of all I’ll remove this standard, because my teacher says we’re not going to cover that now. When I’m not sure about what standards I’m going to be assessed in, I’ll talk to my teacher. Cool, a merit endorsement is still possible. Now I’ll put in the results for my mock exams, and I’ll put in a Not Achieved for a standard I don’t think I’ll attempt. Let’s see what that does. Ouch, I wouldn’t get an endorsement. Hmm, maybe I will give that standard a go after all. If I work really hard on it and manage to get a merit, what will that do? I’d get a merit endorsement! When the results are released in January, if I click on the course on the home page I’ll come straight to this screen. All of my results will be listed here and the bar diagram and the table will be updated. That means I can work out how I got my merit endorsement, or, if things don’t go so well, why I didn’t get Course Endorsement. Thanks for taking this tour with me. I hope you find the tool as useful as I do, and good luck gaining Course Endorsements! Remove External and update Scroll down to statement Enter M and N results and update.
