Pelican News - King`s Hall School

Pelican News
27 April 2012
It has been a bustling start to the term with reading week getting Pre-Prep off to a enthusiastic
start. Gloria Lawrence and her ‘sidekick’ Roger enthralled us all with her storytelling and music
making whilst exploring all things Jamaican. We look forward to the CD recording of the day which
will be given to each child in a couple of weeks time. The costumes on display for Book Character
Day today were fabulous from both children and staff – well done to all for making such a
wonderful effort.
The waterproofs have had a good airing as we have been out and about with Forest School and
play sessions despite the showers. It is now time for our first weekend break before pressing on
into the term. You will probably know we are holding our Spring Open Day tomorrow and it is
perfectly acceptable for people to drop in if they wish to and so do encourage friends you think may
be interested in joining the fun to come along – 10am in the Arts Centre
Year 2 Play Performances with 8S
The Year 2s enjoyed a fun afternoon with 8S on Thursday. The Year 8s had written short plays,
which they had about 45 minutes to teach to small groups of the Year 2s. There was a big
performance of the finished plays at the end of the afternoon. The stories all had a moral and were
about good triumphing over evil. The Year 8s found it quite a tiring afternoon, but the Year 2s
loved working with the older children.
Prep Presentation to Year 2 Parents
An omission from this term’s diary is our annual presentation to parents of Year 2 children who will
be moving up into the Prep department in September. This will take place on Tuesday 26 June at
6.30 pm and we will send you further details about this a little nearer the time.
Speech & Drama Presentation
Please remember there is a Speech Presentation, which is being made to parents on Tuesday, 1
May at 1.30pm.
2P
Don’t forget that 2P has Forest School on Wednesday, 2 May. The children should bring their
clothes in a bag this term and wear uniform to school.
And another reminder to parents to make sure that your children have their daps/trainers in school
and that they fit properly. Thank you!
Toddle Waddle Next Week
Children attending Nursery on Tuesday, 1 May will be joining with Pelican Playgroup in the
morning to do a Toddle Waddle around the field to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust.
Sponsorship forms have been sent home for children who normally attend Nursery on a Tuesday.
We would be grateful if you could return these to Nursery as soon as possible after the event.
Head Lice Alert!
Please be aware that there is a case of head lice in Pre-Prep. Please check your children’s heads
carefully and carry out treatment, as necessary.
Empty Cereal Boxes Needed
We need empty cereal boxes, cardboard tubes (not toilet paper tubes), etc for a junk modelling
project we are doing next week, so please save them and bring them in.
Light and Dark Project
We are starting a short project on the subject of light and dark. Please bring in anything that would
be interesting to use/look at within the dark dens we have created.
New Reception Sofas
Both Reception F and Reception Y have taken delivery of some cosy new sofas this week. The
children have really enjoyed using them – especially at quiet time.

and bring back any badges which come to light. Thank you!
Have a lovely weekend – let’s hope the weather improves!
