November 17, 2010 Do Now: In which organelle does photosynthesis take place? Cellular Respiration? Aim: SWBAT describe how photosynthesis and cellular respiration are related. HW: Worksheet 'Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration' Bring in two pictures of yourself; one as a baby and one now. 1 Photosynthesis Reactants (What goes in) Products (What comes out) Sunlight Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Water (H2O) Oxygen (O2) Chloroplast Sugar (C6H12O6) 2 Cellular Respiration Reactants (What goes in) Products (What comes out) Oxygen (O2) Water (H2O) Mitochondrion Sugar (C6H12O6) Energy Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 3 4 Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are dependent upon one another. Photosynthesis produces the oxygen and glucose (sugar) needed for cellular respiration, and cellular respiration produces the water and carbon dioxide needed for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis happens during the day only. Cellular Respiration happens all the time. Photosynthesis happens in plants cells only. Cellular Respiration happens in plant and animal cells. 5 6 7
