The Chester County Reading Olympics 2016

The Chester County Reading Olympics 2016
Wednesday, March 16 3:30 – 8:45
Held in Phoenixville at TCHS (formally called “CAT-Pickering Campus”)
Dear Parents,
Lionville Elementary has four teams preparing for the Olympics! Teams are reading as many of
the books on the list of 45 titles that they can! Hopefully, each book will be read by several
students on each team. That’s our strategy! All for fun!
All Reading Olympics team members are invited to stay after school on Wednesday, March 14,
for time to collaborate with team members and have dinner before riding the bus to
Phoenixville. Teachers and teams will stay after school o have fun practicing for the evening
rounds and enjoy a “dinner celebration” for our readers.
At 5:00, students and teachers will ride by school bus to the TCHS. This plan is much easier
than all of us driving to get to “CAT” by 5:30 in heavy traffic. Parents and siblings (third grade
and above) are invited to meet us at the Olympics. Start time for the first of three 30-minute
rounds is 6:00. Awards will be given in the gym at 8:15. Students will be chaperoned back to LE
on the bus unless you choose to take your student home from the awards ceremony at 8:30.
3:30-4:00 Team collaboration and “pep rally”
4:00-4:45 Dinner Celebration
4:45 – 5:00 Prepare to board buses
5:00-5:30 Ride school bus to “CAT” and locate assigned classrooms for the first round
6:00 Round one begins
6:50 Round two
7:35 Round three
8:15 Awards
8:30 Board bus to return to L.E.
Each student will receive a Reading Olympics t-shirt to wear the day of the event. Students will
also receive dinner and bus transportation. To help cover the cost of this special activity, a $10
donation is suggested. This may be sent along with the RSVP and permission slip to Mrs.
Soneson, our school coordinator for this event.
Teachers who will attend the Reading Olympics with us are: Mr. Zelznick, Mr. Carpency, Ms.
Smith, Mrs. Speer, Ms. Kurtz, Ms. Walton, and Ms. Soneson.
Please return this paper and bus permission slip
in envelope to Mrs. Soneson by Wednesday, March 9.
