HR Generalist Office of Human Resources Fort Lewis College Durango, Colorado Position Summary The HR Generalist is responsible for the operational functions of year-round Student and Temporary Staff employment. Responsibilities include data management (performed in Banner, Argos, Application Manager and Excel) of student and temporary staff records and payroll. This position oversees student and temporary staff payroll functions, assists with Classified Staff time reporting, works cooperatively with various departments regarding employment procedures, supervises student employee, serves on committees, and collaborates with fellow staff members with regard to departmental planning, best practices, procedures, and cross-training (coverage). Additionally, the HR Generalist provides back-up support to members of the Office of Human Resources as needed. Minimum Qualifications • • • • • • • • • Bachelor’s Degree OR HR experience will qualify for a Bachelor’s Degree on a year to year basis. Demonstrated experience managing multiple assignments and successfully meeting deadlines Attention to detail and strong follow-up skills Proficiency using all programs of Microsoft Office Suite Strong customer service ethic Basic bookkeeping and payroll procedures Working knowledge of FLSA and other HR related laws and compliance issues Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently and serve as an effective team member Preferred Qualifications • • • • • Bachelor's Degree in HR or related field PHR or SPHR Certification Experience with Banner, WebOpus, Application Manager, and Argos Payroll processing Previous work history in higher education Major Responsibilities General HR • Provide customer service for general front office walk-in and phone inquiries • Process, verify, and maintain personnel related documentation, including new hire paperwork, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations, classifications, and employee leaves of absence. • Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants. • Record data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, absences, supervisory reports on performance, and dates of and reasons for terminations. • Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions. • Answer questions regarding benefit eligibility, salaries, and other pertinent information. • • Compile and prepare reports and documents pertaining to personnel activities. Provide assistance in administering employee benefit programs and worker's compensation plans. • • Communicate with faculty and staff regarding changes in employment status Represent the Office of Human Resources at committee meetings, and any related subcommittee meetings Student Employment • Interact with students regarding their work assignments • Develop and foster positive relationships with campus departments • Communicate with students and staff regarding changes in employment status • Coordinate informational needs with other offices on campus hiring students or temporary staff Data Management (performed in Banner, WebOpus, Argos, Application Manager, and Excel) • Process student and temporary staff contracts • Maintain payroll spreadsheet in Excel • Administer bi-weekly payroll • Manage all electronic and hard-copy records of students and temporary employees • Work cooperatively with the Office of Financial Aid with regard to funds awarded to student employees • Collaborate with Controller’s office to manage fiscal year end cycles • Generate reports from data as requested Work Conditions • • Typical 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. office environment May be required to work outside of typical hours to meet deadlines Compensation Salary is $40,000 - $44,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
