2015 Meeting and Investiture
The 2015 meeting opened on Saturday morning, November 7 with
a prayer by our Grand Prior, Archbishop Gregory Aymond.
This was followed by the Orientation Meeting for new members. The
principal speaker for the meeting was Sir Patrick Powers, KGCHS,
Vice Governor General for North America. Sir Patrick gave an overview of the development of the Order and the Order’s role in the modern world.
New investees were also given instructions and an overview of the
Investiture Ceremony by Lady Patricia Hotard, LGCHS, Lay Mistress
of Ceremonies and by Sir George Zimmer, Jr., KC*HS, Lay Master of
Ceremonies.
Lunch on Saturday was followed by the Memorial Mass at the
Church of the Immaculate Conception. Principal Celebrant and Homilist for the Mass was Mobile Archbishop Most Rev. Thomas G. Rodi,
KC*HS. Deceased members of the Order were remembered and promotions in rank were awarded to members in accordance with their
eligibility. .
The evening was given over to the annual black tie dinner dance.
The annual business meeting took place on Sunday morning. Reports were delivered by the Secretary, Lady Nancy Powers, LGCHS,
and by the Treasurer, Sir James E. Laporte, KGCHS. Sir Duke and
Lady Becky Stern delivered a report on the financial status of the Legacy Guardian Program and also recognized a number of members who
have made significant contributions to that growing program.
Vice Governor General Sir Patrick Powers spoke again addressing
the work of the Order and especially elaborating the details of the law
suit regarding the Order’s continuing attempt to regain control of the
operation of the Hotel Columbus in Rome.
Members also heard a report of recent and up-coming pilgrimages
from Co-Masters of Pilgrimages, Sir Pierre and Lady Roz Allemond.
Principal guest speaker for the meeting this year was the Rev.
Msgr. John E. Kozar, President of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. Msgr. Kozar told of the plight of the shrinking Christian
population in the Holy Land, and also of the suffering of Christian minorities in surrounding areas due to warfare and strife.
A fuller report on Msgr. Kozar’s address will be published in the
next issue of the ewsletter.
Following lunch, members assembled fully robed for the Mass of
Investiture, also at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Our
Grand Prior, New Orleans Archbishop Most Rev. Gregory Aymond,
KC*HS. New Members were invested in the Order and our Lieutenant
of Honor, Sir A.J. Capritto, III, KGCHS, received the Gold Palm of
Jerusalem, the highest honor the Order can bestow on a member. Pilgrim Shells were also awarded to members who had made pilgrimages
to the Holy Land but had not participated in one of the pilgrimages
sponsored by the Order.
A white tie banquet Sunday evening and a travelers’ Mass on Monday morning concluded the meeting this year.

Schulte Dead at 89
Former New Orleans Archbishop H.E. Francis Bible
Schulte, KC*HS, died Sunday January 17 at a Churchrun facility in his native Philadelphia after a long illness .
He served the Southeastern Lieutenancy as Grand Prior
for nine years and upon his retirement, he remained a
loyal and devoted member of our Order.
Archbishop Schulte was appointed to the New Orleans
See by Pope St. John Paul II in 1989. He had previously
served as Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia and as Bishop
of Wheeling-Charleston in West Virginia. He served the
people of New Orleans until his retirement in 2002.
Archbishop Schulte had previously served as Superintendent of Education in Philadelphia and he took a strong interest in Catholic education during his
tenure in New Orleans. His immediate successor, Archbishop Alfred Hughes, credited
Archbishop Schulte with bringing an organizational structure to the archdiocese which
required little adjustment when he took over.
New Orleans was unique in that at one
time there were four living archbishops. Pictured right are Archbishops

A funeral Mass was celebrated for
Archbishop Schulte at St. Louis Cathedral
on January 28.
