What conducts electricity?

SCIENCE FAIR POWERPOINT
Problem
What household
items can
electricity flow
through easily?
Research

About 100 children die yearly of getting shocked yearly. If parents are
aware of what things conduct electricity and shouldn't be near outlets
that number could go down. Sourcehttp://www.marshallbrain.com/cp/electricaloutlets.htm


Did you know that one lemon can product 7/10 volts of electricity?

Hypothesis
 If the fork conducts electricity best then we
should keep them away from little kids when
they are playing around an outlet because they
could put in in the outlet and shock themselves.
Materials

6.
7.
8.
2 9 volt batteries
Wires
A light
Play dough
Small cup of water
A potato (a small slice)
A metal fork
Some tin foil
Procedure
1. Make a simple electric circuit
using the batteries, wires, and
light.
2. Put one of the other materials in
the middle and see if the light
shines and if it does how bright t
is.
3. Take a picture of each thing so
you can compare and contrast.
Variables
 Constant; the batteries, light, and wires.
 Independent; what you put in the middle of your
circuit (fork, play dough, tin foil, and water.)
 Dependent; how bright the light is.
data
 The play dough when put into the
simple circuit made the brightest glow.
 The tin foil was a close second.
 Surprisingly the fork was the second
dimmest glow.
 And last but not least the water made
the light glow the least.
conclusion
 I discovered that play dough conducts
electricity very well while water does not.
 P: The answer to my question is that lots of
household objects conducts electricity but
the play dough does it the best.
 H: my hypothesis was not supported because
the fork was almost in last place!
Special Thanks
 I would like to thank my dad who
helped me a lot with my experiment
and made it fun!
