Having a good relationship with others requires a certain degree of skill, character, knowledge, and wisdom. ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ In the “Love Song” series, we have learned some very important things that can help us be better in handling relationships. The following are points we can learn from the series: 1. Godly character is a quality that can be developed and is important in having good and healthy relationships. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. Rom. 5:3-4 Why is Godly character so important in a relationship? Give us examples of godly character. How has godly character helped you in your relationships? 3. The root cause of conflicts in relationships are unmet expectations and self-centeredness. What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. James 4:1-2 What is self-centeredness? Why does it cause conflicts in relationships? What conflicts did you experience because of your being self-centered? What can you do better to be less self-centered? Give us examples of “unmet” expectations. What can you do to resolve this kind of conflict? ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ 4. If you think of something good, say it. ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ 2. “God-honoring” sex is pure and holy. So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Gen. 1:27-28 One of the first blessings that God gave to man is sex. Since He invented sex, He has the right to define it. Sex is one of the most beautiful thing God created, that when done in the context of marriage becomes a blessing. However, when practiced outside of marriage, becomes a great curse. How can sex be a blessing? How can it become a curse? Why is that? The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Prov. 18:21 Read James 3:3-6. Words are so powerful, they can make or break a person. They have the power to encourage or tear down a person. Are you an encourager? Do you uplift the spirit of a person by the words that come out of your mouth? In what ways can you use the power of the tongue to edify someone? How can you develop a habit of doing this? Give us examples of word that can destroy? ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________
