With the average house in the
borough rising by £62,694 in the past
year, owning a property may seem
like an impossible dream.
But new homeowner Nick
Monopoli, who moved to Maryland
earlier this year, says massive regeneration has led to the area seeing
London’s biggest increase.
“The rezoning really put it on the
map, but the Olympics and Westfield
have been part of what seems a
masterplan,” he said.
Rob Wade, Douglas Allen’s associate operations director for east
London, said Newham was following
Walthamstow’s boom and expects the
trend to continue.
But Keith Fernett, CEO of homelessness charity Caritas Anchor
House, warned the rapid increases
have made it “virtually impossible”
to rehouse people in Newham and is
forcing them out.
