TOD MARSHALL
toHigh Modernism
Describe Manifest Destiny
to white
mountains,
a soothing
toothy music,
settling into the saddle,
Waking
or long strides
a
of
fading painting,
Meriwether
Lewis
through
the twiggy
landscape
despairing
in Tennessee.
Wagons
whisper
through
near stacks
sand, prairie
of buffalo
to sing the blues
of Meriwether
schooners
skin and barrels
stuck
of tongue
Lewis
like nothing else
from here to Tennessee.
