Cougar News October 12, 2015 Golf! Yes, Will Carleton Academy and North Adams-Jerome is teaming up in a CO-OP in the sport of golf in the spring of 2016! The team will be open to all boys and girls in grades 9th-12th. The home course is yet to be determined between Jonesville and Lake LeAnn. More details will become available in the months to come. The athletic department is excited about making this fun and competitive sport available to all high school Cougars! Coaching Positions Available with WCA: 5th/6th grade boys’ basketball: The team starts their practices at the end of October and goes until midDecember, before the holiday break. They practice on Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s after school from 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. There is no practice on Wednesday’s. The 5th/6th grade team practices at the same time as the 7th/8th grade team and sometimes together with various drills and conditioning exercises. Serious inquires only, please. Varsity boys’ basketball program: The team starts their practices on November 16th and goes until mid-March. They practice in the evenings throughout the week from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with Wednesday being right after school from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M. Practice is expected and required on most every Saturday and over Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. A background check, valid driver’s license and experience are required. The week of October 5th in review: On Tuesday, October 6th the varsity volleyball team played at Pansophia Academy and was victorious; 25-19, 25-19, 25-16. Stats on the evening: freshman, Mary Harman 4 kills, 4 aces; freshman, Annabelle Springborn 2 aces; junior, Mary Letherer 3 kills, 5 aces; junior, Brianna VanCamp 5 aces; senior, Shelby Spence 2 kills, 7 aces. Coach St. Onge stated, “Let’s keep the same fire and intensity going, ladies!” On Tuesday, October 6th the 7th/8th grade volleyball team played at Pansophia Academy and was victorious; 2514, 22-10, 15-6. The Cougars dominated all three sets! Great job, girls! On Wednesday, October 7th the varsity and middle school cross country teams competed in the SCAA Jamboree #3 at Pittsford. The evening was filled with personal best times again for the Cougars! Leading the team was senior, Drew Randall as he broke into 18 minutes! The other Cougar PR’s: freshman, Alyssa Phillips; eighth grader, Kaden Burge; eighth grader, Paul Gibbs; eighth grader, Zeta Caskey; seventh grader, Gabe Gadwood; seventh grader, John Maier; seventh grader, Lauren Bowles; sixth grader, Paul Whalen; sixth grader, Ryan Saunders. Way to go, runners! On Thursday, October 8th the 5th/6th grade volleyball team played at Trinity Lutheran School and was victorious; 25-16, 9-25, 15-10. The Cougars won the 1st set and struggled in the 2nd set that led to a win for Trinity Lutheran. During the 3rd set our Cougars came back strong and brought home the win. Great win, girls! On Friday, October 9th the varsity volleyball team played at home against Calhoun Christian and lost; 6-25, 1425, 12-25. The Lady Cougars faced a very tough team, but never gave up and continued to work together! Stats on the evening; senior, Shelby Spence 1 kill, 1 ace; sophomore, Sandra Wolcott 1 kill, 1 ace; freshman, Mary Harman 3 kills, 8 perfect passes. Coach St. Onge stated after the game, “Thank you to all the parents, faculty, students and supporters of WCA for supporting us by packing the Cougar Den! The energy was high throughout the middle school and varsity games and we appreciated the love!” On Friday, October 9th the 7th/8th grade volleyball team played at home against Calhoun Christian and was victorious in all three sets! The team continues with their undefeated season. Congratulations, ladies! On Saturday, October 10th the varsity and middle school cross country teams competed in the Hudson Invitational. Our Cougar runners pushed themselves to personal best times again! PRs were: senior, Drew Randall; junior, Devlin McNeil; freshman, Alyssa Phillips; freshman, Alexis Donahue; eighth grader, Kaden Burge; eighth grader Zeta Caskey; seventh grader, Gabe Gadwood; seventh grader, John Maier; seventh grader Isabella Thielen; seventh grader, Lauren Bowles; sixth grader Paul Whalen; sixth grader Levi Kelemen. Saturday, October 17th: Varsity volleyball at Jonesville in the “I Wear Pink for Someone Special” Tournament at 8:00 A.M. Varsity cross country competing in the Mid-South Conference meet at 10:00 A.M. Middle school cross country competing in the Mid-South Conference meet at 10:00 A.M. *The fall sports senior night honors will take place after the 2nd set of the match.
