Mirdif Private School English 1#2 Class focus Mon → Thur This week we will focus on the theme “Why does a character take risks for a friend?”. We will be exploring this theme through the literary genre of historical fiction. We will be reading “Star in the Storm” (pp 278) in which we will recount the story of a brave and loyal dog. Students will be required to write 2 essays focused on the themes discussed. One essay will be about researching true tales of dogs helping humans. Students will be prompted to write a paragraph explaining why they think dogs behave this way. Students may include examples from their own life or from stories they have read or heard. The second essay will discuss the theme of friendship and students will write an essay discussing “What makes a good friend” and exploring the characteristics of good friends. The grammar focus for this week will be on transition works used in the beginning, middle and end of paragraphs. Students will be required to use these to write these essays. In addition, students will be completing an unseen reading comprehension titled “Bullet Trains”. In the lab we will be examining whether latitude and longitude has a bigger influence on climate. Students will be expanding their scientific vocabulary with the words: biome, latitude, longitude, climate and organisms.
