This week we will focus on the theme “Why does a character take risks for a
friend?”. We will be exploring this theme through the literary genre of historical
fiction. We will be reading “Star in the Storm” (pp 278) in which we will
recount the story of a brave and loyal dog. Students will be required to write 2
essays focused on the themes discussed. One essay will be about researching
true tales of dogs helping humans. Students will be prompted to write a
paragraph explaining why they think dogs behave this way. Students may
include examples from their own life or from stories they have read or heard.
The second essay will discuss the theme of friendship and students will write an
essay discussing “What makes a good friend” and exploring the characteristics
of good friends. The grammar focus for this week will be on transition works
used in the beginning, middle and end of paragraphs. Students will be required
to use these to write these essays. In addition, students will be completing an
unseen reading comprehension titled “Bullet Trains”. Our spelling words for
this week are: Frothing, eerie, receded, collided, desperation, looming, stabilize,
dismay, mounting, jutted.

negative numbers Lesson 3.2: Compare and order integers.
CC.6.NS.5-8 During this week students will learn and Understand that
positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having
opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation
above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use
positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts,
explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation. Beside they will work on project
based on positive and negative integers.
During this week students will be investigating what the link to climate and the position
of biomes are on earth. They will also be identifying which organisms are unique in
which biome. Students will also identify what role humans play in climate and how
biome boundaries may change as a result of change in climate. In the lab we will be
examining whether latitude and longitude has a bigger influence on climate. Students
will be expanding their scientific vocabulary with the words: biome, latitude, longitude,
climate and organisms.
Parents’ Role: Parents are kindly requested to discuss with students at home what
climate change is and what we can do to prevent it from occurring.
