iPad/iPod/iPhone Setting RESTRICTIONS

Setting up RESTRICTIONS on your iDevice
If you have a District-owned iPad/iPod/iPhone, you may want to set up
RESTRICTIONS on your device for the purpose of classroom/data
security.
If a student is using a device that has personal information on the device
(such as email, Internet, Apple Store, iTunes, in-app purchasing like Angry
Birds, Facebook, etc.), setting RESTRICTIONS turns off the ability for
students to enter those apps on the device. This IS NOT the same as a
Passcode as it DOES NOT lockdown the device completely, but rather
SHUTS OFF certain apps/features on the device for the time of use. Those
apps/features can be reinstated by changing the restrictions back after
student use.
Please follow these steps to add RESTRICTIONS to your iDevice:
1. Click SETTINGS on your iDevice
2. Click on GENERAL on the left. Click on RESTRICTIONS to the right.
3. To the RIGHT of the screen you will see Enable Restrictions.
4. A box will pop up asking you for a FOUR-DIGIT Passcode number.
Please make this a number you will remember but not a common number
like (1234 or 1111, etc.) unless those numbers are significant to you.
NOTE: You will enter the same four-digit number.
5. Once Restrictions are enabled, you will be able to choose what you
want to RESTRICT for the students while they are using the device.
a. For example, if you DO NOT want the students to get on the
Internet, you would turn SAFARI to the OFF position. The Safari
app will temporarily disappear until you readjust your Restriction
settings.

b. You can choose what items you would like to show up on your
device by turning the apps/features ON or OFF.
In order to adjust the type of content on
your device, you can decide by clicking on
the items below “Allowed Content.” You
can turn off Movies, TV Shows, Apps, and
In-App Purchases, but you cannot turn
OFF Music or PHOTOS completely.
If you click on Location,
this item should be on
so your device can be
found by Meraki if
needed.
If you click on Accounts, this
item only allows you to turn
OFF or ON allowing changes
to the Accounts, not to turn
MAIL accounts ON or OFF.
6. You can turn OFF Restrictions (disable) by clicking on Disable
Restrictions. It will ask you to enter your Passcode and then
everything will be greyed out in the menu items below “Enable
Restrictions.”
CAUTIONS:
 Restrictions will NOT turn your mail
(email) On/Off. You must turn your mail
on/off by going into MAIL from the Settings
button and turning off certain items in your
mailbox.
 Restrictions will NOT turn off your MUSIC or PHOTOS. If you have
iCloud on, photos from your phone can be imported to your iPad
without you knowing. Be cautious with pictures and music that appear
on your iPad as it is still considered a “district-owned device.”
 Restrictions will NOT turn off apps like Banking Apps, Credit Card
Apps, Words with Friends, or anything else with potential
secure information, etc. unless you restrict all Apps or those apps
fall within the Age Range of your restriction.
NOTE:
Passcodes and/or Restrictions do not replace teacher monitoring.
