Spring 2016 MERCY IS ANOTHER NAME FOR GOD Fr. Jim Strommer C.P. Dear Friends, Isn’t it wonderful that this year our name for God is Mercy? Even as the world around us goes about its usual business, there is something new in the air. It is the forgiving and healing touch of God. This Jubilee Year has already lived up to its promise to be a time of remarkable holiness and grace. The lines for reconciliation are longer and the Sunday homilies proclaim a God of love and forgiveness. Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center has been honored by Bishop Soto to be designated as a Holy Year pilgrimage station. You will notice that the side door to the chapel is marked with the Papal Seal and will welcome you to all the extraordinary graces offered as you enter the chapel. There has been a steady flow of friends, not just from our deanery but from all around the diocese. Follow the banners up the drive and spend a few moments in quiet prayer. Our holy ground is even more blessed during this year of grace. You will also notice a new energy around the Retreat Center this year. We have expanded our ministry staff and added several new programs. Ms. Christie Young joined our staff last September as Assistant Director of Ministry. She brings a youthful spirit and a lot of experience working with young adult ministry. Along with this she has a degree in marketing. With these gifts Christie is reaching out to many young people who may never have been to Christ the King. Another important development is our Hispanic Ministry program. Fr. Clemente Barron, C.P. also joined our staff this past summer. He has offered several programs in Spanish, including the Las Posadas procession and fiesta in December. Of course we are continuing with our usual weekend retreats for men and women. Our theme this year is: “Be Merciful as Your Heavenly Father is Merciful,” which reflects on both the Jubilee Year of Mercy and the Holy Father’s encyclical Laudato Si. It is an opportunity to engage with the Church’s challenge to care for the earth, our common home, and to discover the gift of mercy that has the power to unite all of God’s people. As this newsletter goes to press we are nearing the great Liturgical Triduum which culminates the Feast of Easter. For our Retreat Center, which is dedicated to keeping alive the memory of the Passion of Jesus, this is a very special time of the year. The joy that rises within us at Easter time is magnified by the Springtime happening all around us. As the new flowers bloom there is a freshness in the air that calls us to a spontaneous prayer of gratitude and a new resolve to proclaim God’s love. Thank you to everyone for your continued support for our retreat center ministry. You will find in these pages several programs and opportunities to spend some prayerful time here at the center. We look forward to seeing you on retreat. May God bless you and your loved ones with the special Joy of Easter! Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center Spring 2016 See website for dates!
