There will also be some cross curricular links with Science as we examine the wonderful world of minibeasts! In DT we will use Roald Dahl’s stories to help us create our own recipe for a Perfect Peach Pie. We will use ‘James and the Giant Peach’ as our inspiration for a trip around the world. We will build on the children’s knowledge of continents and countries. We will refer to atlases, maps and online software, such as Google Earth, to build on children’s key geographical skills. Year 2 Medium Term Plan Summer 2014 ‘It’s a Small World’ The wonderful world of Roald Dahl RE We will take a close look at our local church, All Saints. We will examine it’s history , architecture and place in Carshalton’s community. We will also look at the story of Noah. , which we will use as a springboard to discuss a range of topics faith, trust, obedience and natural disasters. PSHE In PSHE this term the children will be thinking about changes as they prepare for their transition to from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two. We will examine any anxieties or questions they might have about the change. We will also be looking ways to stay safe outside. English This term our focus will be on two of Roald Dahl’s much loved children’s stories. We will spend four weeks looking at ‘James and the Giant Peach’. This will be our inspiration for learning about character profiles, synonyms and postcard writing. We will use ‘The BFG’ as our inspiration for acrostic poems, instruction writing, recipes and lots of interactive drama work. We will revisit punctuation and sentence construction. We will continue to build on the children’s knowledge of letters and sounds and spellings will incorporate weekly phonic patterns. We will examine the role of graphic design in everyday life. We will use a variety of software programmes to design a front and back book cover for ‘The BFG’ and ‘James and the Giant Peach’. Dance/P.E Giant dances Outdoor—World Cup. PE Outdoor This term’s outdoor PE lessons will take the 2014 Fifa World Cup as their starting point. Children will learn a variety of useful football skills. We focus on attacking and defending. We will apply the ball handling skills we learnt in the first part of the term. Indoor Children will continue learning a variety of gymnastic routines. They will work individually and in pairs and small groups. They will all have opportunities to develop their skills at a suitable pace and level.
