Dear Parent or Guardian:
This is to provide you with important information about applications for the 2015-2016 school year for
current Chicago Public Schools (CPS) preschool students and siblings of current CPS students.
Current Preschool Students
In most CPS elementary schools, the preschool program does not feed directly into kindergarten. There
are only four schools where a preschool student can go directly into kindergarten WITHOUT having to
apply to kindergarten: Drummond, Inter-American, Mayer and Suder. Please note that if:
(1) Your child attends preschool at an elementary school other than the four mentioned above,
(2) The elementary school your child attends is NOT your designated neighborhood school, and
(3) You want your child to be considered for kindergarten at that school for the 2015-2016 school
year, then:
You MUST apply to kindergarten for that school through the Options for Knowledge application process.
Information about the application process can be found at the end of this letter.
Siblings of current Chicago Public Schools students
If you have a child that you want to enroll in a Chicago public school for the 2015-2016 school year, and
you have another child enrolled in that school, you MUST submit an application through the Options for
Knowledge application process for the child that you want to enroll. The currently enrolled sibling’s last
name, CPS ID number, and current school code MUST be included on the application. Sibling applicants
to elementary magnet, magnet cluster, or open enrollment schools are selected first and will be offered
seats to the extent that space is available. If a school receives more applications from siblings than there
are seats available, a computerized lottery will be conducted to fill the seats.
The term “sibling” refers to natural siblings, step siblings, foster siblings and adopted siblings only. In
order to be eligible, the enrolled sibling and the sibling applicant must live in the same household. An
applicant cannot be enrolled as a sibling if the enrolled sibling graduates in 2015 or transfers to a
different school in the 2015-2016 school year. If the enrolled sibling graduates or transfers to a different
school, the sibling applicant will be placed in the general applicant lottery.
How to Apply
You can apply online at www.apply.cps.edu (click ‘Step 1’ to begin the process), or submit a paper
application, accessible at www.cpsoae.org (click ‘Apply’ and ‘Application Materials’ for a Standard
Elementary Schools application). The application deadline is December 12, 2014. Students who do not
have an application submitted by the deadline WILL NOT be eligible for admission in the 2015-2016
school year.

Esto es para proporcionarle información importante acerca de las solicitudes para el año escolar 2015-2016 para
estudiantes actuales de preescolar de Escuelas Públicas de Chicago (CPS) y los hermanos de los estudiantes
actuales de CPS.
Estudiantes Actuales Preescolar
En la mayoría de las escuelas primarias de CPS, el programa preescolar no pasa directamente al kindergarten. Hay
solamente cuatro escuelas donde un estudiante preescolar puede pasar directamente al kindergarten SIN TENER

entonces:
DEBE solicitar admisión al kindergarten para esa escuela a través del proceso de solicitud Opciones para el
Aprendizaje. Información sobre el proceso de solicitud puede encontrarse al final de esta carta.
Hermanos de estudiantes actuales de Escuelas Públicas de Chicago
Si tiene un niño que quiere matricular en una escuela pública de Chicago para el año escolar 2015-2016, y tiene
otro niño matriculado en esa escuela, DEBE presentar una solicitud a través del proceso de solicitud Opciones para
el Aprendizaje para el niño que quiere matricular. El apellido del hermano actualmente matriculado, el número de
ID de CPS y el código escolar actual SE DEBEN incluir en la solicitud. Los solicitantes por hermanos para escuelas
primarias magnet, magnet de grupo y de matrícula abierta se seleccionan primero y se le ofrecerán asientos a
medida que haya espacio disponible. Si una escuela recibe más solicitudes de hermanos que el número de espacios
disponibles, una lotería computarizada se llevará a cabo para llenar los espacios.
El término “hermano” quiere decir hermanos naturales, hermanastros, hermanos de acogida y hermanos
adoptados solamente. Para que sea elegible, el hermano actualmente matriculado y el hermano que está
solicitando admisión tienen que vivir en el mismo hogar. Un solicitante no puede ser matriculado como hermano
si el hermano matriculado actualmente se gradúa en 2015 o se cambia a otra escuela diferente en el año escolar
2015-2016. Si el hermano matriculado actualmente se gradúa o se cambia a otra escuela, el solicitante por
hermano se colocará en la lotería general de solicitantes.
Como Solicitar Admisión
Puede solicitar admisión en línea en www.apply.cps.edu (haga clic en ‘Step 1’ para comenzar el proceso), o puede
presentar una solicitud en papel, accesible en www.cpaoae.org (haga clic en ‘Apply’ y ‘Application Materials’ para
una solicitud Estándar de Primaria). La fecha límite es el 12 de diciembre de 2014. Los estudiantes que no tienen
una solicitud completada para la fecha límite NO SERAN elegible para admisión para el año escolar 2015-2016.
