Enviro-Flange TM Anti-Leak Pressure & Liquid Retaining Oval Fire-Box Flange For Heated Oil, Water, & Gas Pressure Vessel Complete Oil & Gas Process Equipment Solutions After Years in the oil & gas industry and around various types of oil process equipment, it is time for some change. Process equipment designs have pretty much been the same since the inception early on with little innovation. One particular pressure vessel that needs change is the emulsion/oil treater, or heated separator. This particular vessel is a direct fired vessel that uses a U-tube style fire tube in the water or sometimes oil section of the vessel to heat emulsions or paraffin, giving better separation. This vessel is found on both land locations and offshore platforms. It is most commonly used in very low pressure applications or artificial lifted wells. This particular vessel has been built the same way as long it has been around. The original design for this vessel was for very low pressure service, typically with a Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) of 25psi. Then, as time went on, users expected more; MAWP went up to 50psi, then 75psi, and up to 125psi. Soon, some units were built with an MAWP of 250psi at sizes over 8 feet in diameter, Very Unsafe. The main part of this vessel that sustained the most abuse was the fire tube flange. Until now, this flange has been just a flat faced plate with a neoprene rubber gasket compressed between the two flanges. As the pressure is rising, the flanges and gaskets are failing! As a major process equipment manufacturer we have seen our share of leaks, fires, spills, etc. It is time for the end user, buyer, or facility owner to realize the risk at hand at any moment. All manufacturers are building these vessels the same and are having their fair share of trouble with issue at hand. Field personnel would definitely agree with this issue. Machine technology has finally advanced to allow us to develop a better product and make old technology obsolete. One more common problem that field personnel face is they do not have the ability to change out fire tubes with ease. Manufacturers each make their own cut flange version; not one manufactures fire tube replaces another. Fire tube must be sent into a fabricator to have fire tube pipe repaired or replaced. There are huge costs and production down time associated with this. Multiple companies have either closed or sold out, so for end user to repair vessel it is very challenging.
