EMPOWERING TODAY'S YOUTH TO BECOME TOMORROW'S ENTREPRENEURS
Dear Friends,
Remember the fun you had selling lemonade on your block? Well, lemonade stands are back!
Once again, we’re pairing the fun with valuable lessons about starting, owning and operating
a business - a lemonade stand. Our registered young entrepreneurs will begin a fun and
experiential step-by-step process to start their own lemonade stand. On Lemonade Day, it
becomes a community-wide celebration focused on our youth, their future, business, and the
American dream. I love that so much!
Lemonade Day Galveston County is much broader than just one individual child selling
lemonade from his/her stand. It’s a process that gets the whole community focused long term
on investing in our youth and teaching them about business. It also shows them how they can
create their own jobs in the future instead of just looking for a job.
To become a sponsor of Lemonade Day Galveston County, please complete our sponsor
commitment form in this sponsorship packet. Remember, all contributions made to Lemonade
Day Galveston County are tax deductible!
National Lemonade Day and Lemonade Day Galveston County will take place on Sunday, May 7,
2017. Wear yellow, drink lots of lemonade and support a dream!
Get involved. Help build a stand. Spark a dream.

What is Lemonade Day?
Lemonade Day is a nation-wide event that teaches kids the skills they need to be successful in
life. Kids learn to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide
customer service, save for the future, and give back to the community. Lemonade Day Galveston
County is the perfect opportunity for our region to show kids they care and train the next generation of entrepreneurs through a free, fun, engaging, and empowering activity.
How did it start?
Michael Holthouse, a Houston entrepreneur and philanthropist, founded Prepared 4 Life (P4L), a
nonprofit that provides fun, proactive, and experiential programs infused with life skill, character
education, and entrepreneurship. Inspired by the lessons he was able to teach his young daughter
and her friend when they set up a lemonade stand, Holthouse launched Lemonade Day in Houston,
Texas in 2007 as a community-wide, educational initiative, which has now become P4L’s number
one outreach and educational priority.
When is it?
National Lemonade Day and Lemonade Day Galveston will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
Who can participate?
Youth of all ages, from pre-K through high school, can register to set up an official Lemonade Day
stand. Kids must register with a mentoring adult so there are lots of opportunities for mentors
and volunteers. In addition, community support from schools, youth organizations, and local businesses, and is essential to the success of Lemonade Day Galveston County.
How does it work?
Once a child is registered they receive a backpack with an informational workbook that outlines
the steps needed to start a business: from setting a goal, creating a business plan, forming a budget,
finding an investor, to saving money, and donating a portion back to their community. Materials
are available in Spanish and English.
How can I get involved?
Everyone is welcome to be involved with Lemonade Day Galveston County. We need mentors,
investors, employees, and customers to support participants! Sponsors and volunteers are also
needed to make Lemonade Day a success! All money raised through local donations and sponsorships is used directly to support Lemonade Day Galveston County.

OUR STORY
The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce established an education committee in 2010 as a
broad based community partnership. The committee united every educational institution both
public and private on the island in an unprecedented alliance to enhance the quality, accessibility,
choice, and usefulness of education for all students and to support the economic, social, and
political viability of Galveston Island. The Education Committee felt Lemonade Day was the perfect
collaboration of business and education to help achieve their goals, and with their support the
Galveston Chamber of Commerce purchased the licensing fee to bring Lemonade Day Galveston
County to our community in 2012.
We registered more than 800 kids to participate in Lemonade Day Galveston County 2016.
Lemonade Day Galveston County not only helps prepare our future entrepreneurs, it also exposes
our young entrepreneurs to our local chamber of commerce. Lemonade Day Galveston County
unites our business community, city leadership, educators, community members, parents and
children to work together toward a common goal: preparing our children for the future!
