Guidelines and Entry Form
2017
The Oviatt Friends of the Library at California State University, Northridge, will give a biennial award of $1000 to
a writer who has published a significant work of fiction dealing directly with the region of the San Fernando
Valley. An Honorable Mention award of $250 may also be presented if warranted.
The purpose of the award is to recognize important contributions to fiction about (or including significant
reference to) the San Fernando Valley, and to promote awareness of the region. Judges for this award include
select members of the Friends of the Library Board, members of the faculty at California State University,
Northridge, and members of the Oviatt Library faculty or staff.
Eligibility Requirements
•
Work must be an original work of fiction produced in book format.
•
The subject of the work relates directly to the San Fernando Valley.
•
Self-published works are eligible.
•
Works must have a publication date no earlier than 2011.
•
Works originally published in a language other than English must be submitted in translation.
•
Electronically published works should be submitted as bound, paper printouts that include full
publication information.
Submission
•
Works may be submitted by the author, publisher, or any member of the public.
•
All entries must be postmarked by December 12, 2016.
•
All submissions must include: a completed entry form, five copies of the work, and a brief (500 words or
less) biographical statement about the author.
Awards
•
Winner(s) will be announced at a reception at CSUN in the Spring or or Summer of 2017.
•
Winners will be provided the opportunity to speak and/or read from their work at the award
ceremony.
