Word Lists Copyright © 2005 by Advanced Placement Strategies All rights reserved. Used under license by Laying the Foundation, Inc. www.layingthefoundation.org Word Lists The Word Lists section is a division of the words into groups of 25 words which are then grouped into 65 lessons. These words are listed in descending order of appearance on past SAT/PSAT tests. Those words which appeared most often on past tests, some as many as twelve and thirteen times, appear in the first lessons, while those that appeared only once are listed in the last lessons. If all lessons cannot be covered, then the first fifteen should be emphasized since they contain the words that appear multiple times on past SAT/PSAT tests. The division of the words into 65 lessons makes it easy for teachers to divided the lessons among different grade levels so that through a course of four or five years the students can be exposed to all the words. Another usefulness of the lists lies in the advantage of being able to give the students one sheet of paper that contains all the words that will be covered in one six weeks period of time. And effective manner of using this list in the classroom is to challenge students to find these words in print … in their assigned reading or in their leisure reading. They should copy the sentence from the text, underline the word, and name the source of the material. This helps to reinforce the importance of learning the words when the students see them in places other than on the SAT/PSAT tests.
