New course development
2006
o SPAN 600 (Spanish Research Methods) is a new course that I developed for our
graduate program. It went through the college curriculum approval process in
2006, and I teach it on Saturdays (Spring 2007, Spring 2008, Spring 2010,
Spring 2011, Spring 2012) as an alternative course for the University’s SRM 600
(Statistics and Research Methods), which is required of all graduate students.
o
SPAN 412 is a course which I redesigned in 2006, combining 411 and 412 into
one semester to complement the courses in our new bilingual/bicultural program
which was approved by the Colorado Dept. of Education. We are doing this in an
interdisciplinary fashion with the College of Education. The syllabus was
resubmitted and re-approved in 2012 to comply with the Colorado Department of
Education recertification of our Linguistically Diverse Education Endorsement.
o
gtPathways approval: HISP 102 and HISP 111 I wrote the syllabi for these two
courses which were approved for gtPathways
2008
•
2009
•
SPAN 103 (Spanish for Professionals) is a new course that Deborah Romero,
Beth Franklin and I developed for teachers who have no prior experience in
Spanish but need basic skills for communication with Spanish speaking students
and parents. It was approved in 2008, and I taught it for the first time in FALL
2008, using my own syllabus. In 2010, SPAN 103 was added to the LAC area 7.
SPAN 305 Intro to Linguistics is a new required course in our SPAN LA and
Teaching majors, Spanish Teaching Endorsement and minors. The linguist we
had hired to develop and teach this course was given a year leave of absence
without pay in May 2009, so I chose the book, designed the syllabus, developed
and taught the course myself in Fall 2009 and Fall 2010.
