ELECTRIC PICNIC MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL STRADBALLY HALL, CO. LAOIS 4th-6th September 2015 ______________________ From its modest beginnings three years ago, when Trailer Park rolled into Stradbally to pay homage to the dubious memories of the humble caravan; the vintage vacation park has become the mecca for the displaced eccentrics and nostalgic amongst Picnickers. As with last year the Electric Picnic’s mobiletropolis called for fresh designers to emerge from under their garden toadstools and laboratories to get creating. Over 100 lunatics responded which made us laugh and cry. Today we have narrowed these down to the final fifteen that will be exhibiting this year. Roll it there Roisin……….and reveal those outrageous, interactive trailers, caravans and vans holidaying this September in Stradbally Hall…………. With the help of interiors journalist Dara Flynn, Chairperson of the ID2015 Laura Magahy and the team behind Trailer Park we selected a further 14 trailers and caravans to join the weird but wonderful array of designs for a well-deserved spot for them to pull into at this years’ Electric Picnic. GladRags & GlamFags By Moe Coakley GladRags & GlamFags will kick off Electric Picnics first ever “Lip Sync Battle Arena!!” Step aboard a vintage bus, get gooey in glamour to be schooled by the “Shade Parade” - the fabulous jury who decide whether you’re trailer trash or you make the grade. Apply to compete, book your slot, invite your mates and bring your very finest and most glittering game face to become the Trailer Park’s Electric Princess or Prince… One crown fits all. The VIVA ELECTRIC PICNIC CHAPEL By Alex McHugh and Cian McKenna What happens at EP, stays at EP!!! Stumble in to our tacktastic little chapel and tie the knot for the festival weekend. Officiated by the king himself, Mr Elvis Presley, each impromptu ceremony will be complete with fabulously tacky Elvis-esque décor. "Here Comes the Bride" will be played to great effect on electric organ, as you march the full 3ft aisle of our tiny caravan church! Following the wedding, our newly-weds will be treated to their very own temporary tattoos. That’s right ladies and gentlemen – this is one classy joint! Holodeck By Ian Fitzgerald & Terry Madigan Virtual Reality Ireland teams up with the Electric Picnic 15 to bring you the "Holodeck" Using the latest Virtual Reality technology, Holodeck will showcase this fantastic new fully immersive medium to festival goers. Visit the Holodeck caravan to experience a full menu of experiences which you, the user, can choose for yourself. Whether you're into flying like superman over Manhattan or on stage singing ‘Live and Let Die’ with Paul McCartney, the choice is yours. The experience will transport you from the fields of Stradbally to views of the world like you have never seen before. The Holodeck trailer has teamed up with a surprise Irish/Australian street artist to create a bespoke stencil exclusively for our trailer. The interior will pay homage to the early creators of virtual reality, reflected throughout the trailer design (think old school red/blue 3D glasses). Holodeck endeavours to up-cycle where possible, keeping their carbon footprint at an absolute minimum, aligning with the festival ethos. There will be 2 glass viewing domes on site allowing each user a safe and comfortable platform to enjoy their VR Experience. CARAVAN MIRROR MAZE By The Lucky Lot, Herbal Crest & Blas Café in association with The Chocolate Factory Inspired by artist Yoyoi Kusama, The Lucky Lot in collaboration with Herbel Crest & Blas Café at The Chocolate Factory create a spectacular labyrinthine mirror maze for Trailer Park 2015. With a reflective glass exterior, the caravan will be an object of illusion, reflecting all the bizarre happenings at Trailer Park. Visitors will walk into our entrance and face the visual challenge of walking through the Caravan Mirror Maze, with mirrored floors, walls and ceiling. They will be spun into an illusory passage with vertigo-inducing reflections and blinking LEDs. Our aim is to create a carvanscopic galaxy or a nebula and for visitors to emerge the other side into a different world: a tarpaulin covered secret garden where Blas Café is serving delicious food / Herbal Crest soft drinks and The Chocolate Factory resident chocolatier serves real hot chocolate shots. Here there will be a long, simple wooden feasting table in between a framework on which we hang roped swing seats for our guests to sit together and while away magic time at The Electric Picnic. The Funeral Parlour By Huxley Horror Don your finest and most flamboyant funeral attire and gather in this old-school funeral parlour for some funeral fun! At the Funeral Parlour your great-great-granny would have felt at home - and maybe still does!!! Venture through the doors and you will be greeted by cadaverous Huxley Horror creatures, doing their damnedest to make sure you’re running screaming for your life! If you are a lucky soul, you may even have the opportunity attend their own wake! Have your requests included in the death notices and find out more at www.huxleyhorror.com. Not for the faint of heart… or soul!! The Bus That Fell To Earth By David Sumray Now a deserted and somewhat lonely and neglected bus, it has served it's time working hard, day-in-day-out, delivering millions of people to their daily destinations. It has witnessed the simplicities and complexities of everyday life: laughter; sadness; courtship; divorce; death; birth; love; lust. Absorbed into its metal structure, these emotions live on. The bus reveals the secrets of its past. "It's not what you look at, it's what you see." Focus and you will see something very different than a bashed up neglected old bus. You must breakdown the programmed and conditioned mind that views a bus only being on the road; then and only then will you truly see. Plastic Fantastic By Mud Island Community Garden ‘Plastic Fantastic' is an interactive caravan installation inspired by community garden surroundings, clad with plastic bottle top mosaics, plastic flowers and giant plastic bubble wrap. Furnishings will be fashioned from all sorts of plastic paraphernalia. Picnicers are invited to visit and collaborate in this installation of fantastic plasticness! While here why not try on items from the plastic fantastic wardrobe! Nightly, a very special Plastic Fantastic light show will highlight this very plastic and very fantastic installation, in all its plastic glory! The Trailer Tower. A Tall View! By Benny Magennis Join us in our tiny, two berth caravan perched neatly and precariously upon a 25ft wooden tower! Benny Magennis’s creation gives the festival goer a new vantage point to fully appreciate the fabulous and the fantastical creations that inhabit the Trailer Park. Comedivan By Danny Dowling (Madhatter Productions) Debuting in Trailer Park Electric Picnic 2015 we bring you the world’s first fully interactive, environmentally conscious, mobile Comedy Caravan – COMEDIVAN!!! The Comedivan caravan is an environmentally friendly art space - a topsy-turvy mix of something old, something new, something borrowed and something green. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!!! …. On its drop down stage, Comedivan will host LIVE COMEDY as well as some other unannounced and super secret performances over the course of the festival weekend. The Degustation Teardrop By Angus Craigie Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, culinary art and good company. This hybrid installation is inspired by the retro look of the American airstream caravan and a round topped barn, as found in the Irish countryside. Not only this, but our caravan will look like an opening clam, revealing the food preparation and display area within. Dive in for demonstrations on food preparation, and part-takers will be allowed sample their delicious produce afterwards. Caravan Obscura; Turn your world upside down! By Sandra McAllister Step into the Caravan Obscura, where the outside trailer park world will be projected upside down onto the back wall of the darkened trailer. All through a tiny pinhole! And why not create your own portable Camera Obscura to take away with you, and share the view of an upside down world. Reciprocity By Rob Parkes, Art O’Laoire, Ken Coleman and Emma O’Brien (AKA Team Reciprocity!) Experience the creation and manipulation of imagery in real-time through the use of computer generated video in sync with music. RECIPROCITY is a broad term for real-time visual performance. It is a participatory, interactive, performed, body-environment based experience. Reciprocal behaviour is what brings the piece to life. Acts from Sub:Sonic Records and Scoundrels Sound System will feature over the weekend to make this an exciting, multidimensional happening. Silver Spacecraft (The Day the Earth Stood Still) By Garry St.George-Kennedy Garry St George-Kennedy brings us an ORGANIC, OMNIBIOUS, ALIEN, SPACECRAFT! Join the creatures that crew this silver beauty; visit with them in their inner sanctum. Silver Spacecraft is created from panels of aluminium, glued, screwed, and riveted. The windows appear as though they are living eyes and gills. Steam spews from the vents. A mahogany door, inset with stained glass panels will lead into a lush, if intimidating inner dwelling. Steampunked to perfection, the interior is fitted with miles of mahogany, leather, velvet, lace, chrome, brass, and Tiffany lamps. OLDE WORLDE TRAVELLING SHOW By Selena Kindersley At long last, the ancient sporting challenge of arm-wrestling finds itself here in the heart of low-life antics - a hidden corner of Trailer Park. Alex "Keno" MacKenzie and Seany "StrongArm" Fennelly begin the challenge each day - who can take them out in an armwrestle? Any challengers are coerced into buying two shots of hooch from the adjacent bar one for him, one for you - and the Olympian task begins. Illegal gambling on the outcome is encouraged (but not by us), and there are no special concessions for ladies. This is the place in the picnic that you are most likely to be fleeced. Inevitably, folks will begin to bet their family silver on two flies walking down a wall, and we'll be there to egg it all on.AND RETURNING TO TRAILER PARK!! Car-au-vin By Shane Banim Monsieur le Banim est un vin snob grincheux avec une femme qui préfèrent vivre dans une grande ville comme Pauillac. Elle est un peu tarty, et applique trop de rouge à lèvres chaque matin. And the young assistant is very pretty. Les Banims sont les proprieteurs de Car-au-vin. Come and join them for a glass of wine. Do not ask for house wine. Incredibly Mad De-Programming Machine By David Sumray This mobile machine designed by slightly eccentric professor Dave “moonlight” Sumray offers a ‘De-Programming Session’ to willing Picnickers, stripping them of the layers of conditioning that modern living has forced upon them. Picnickers beware however - his improvised invention is not yet perfected and results have been haphazard at times! Lord Ganesh’s Larder By Fiona Arakelian Lord Ganesh’s Larder promises to be an immersive Indian experience chronicling the sounds and colours of India. Inspired by the Hindu elephant deity, this space will pay tribute to Lord Ganesh who, quite simply, loved to dance and eat sweets! In this decorated Indian bus complete with Howdah chair on top and old suitcases scattered around the front, there will be a chance to dance, drink chai and eat Indian sweetmeats from Lord Ganesh’s Larder. Caravanaoke By Brian Connolly, Neil Conlan and Frank Gough Reminiscing scenes from the famous Fr. Ted episode – Caravanaoke - brings you karaoke in a caravan! We'll have a superb sound system and someone on hand to show you the ropes and then it’s all yours....sing your heart out! Betty Bang By Angi Dixon ROCK & CHEOL TEA PARTY by Betty Bang Grab yo hos and your bos!!!!! Betty Bang is having the ultimate Rock & Cheol Tea Party this year!!! Armed with her crack team of banjo bandits, sean nos barrel dancing pugilists, pin ups in pinnies serving jam & scones and gin cocktails served up out of vintage China tea pots! This will be the interactive eclectic mash up of the Banjo deliverance scene, a rock n roll picnic served up with vintage tea party grub!.......here's to the coolest hoedown in trailerpark! Angi Dixon creator of Betty Bang Club Caravan Extravaganza By Dermot Agnew Club Caravan Extravaganza is full the strange rumblings in the undergrowth; fanfares on high; angles singing and babies crying. Returning to the Trailer Park to amuse, bemuse, confuse and intrude on an otherwise mundane life. This little big theatre-style venue will be offering up an eclectic mix of music and performance. My Big Fat Redneck Divorce By Clement Wilson & Lucy Osbourne An interactive theatre production, the stage being the trailer and the garden outside; the audience are invited to join the party as they enjoy the show. The last 12 months have not been kind to Darlene, after marrying Earl at last year's Electric Picnic. Sadly they have since divorced, but you can't keep a good woman down, even in Hicksville. As you’d expect from good ol’ Southern hospitality it is an open trailer, for the weekend, and y'all are invited. Makeshop at Trailer Park By Science Gallery | supported by Trinity College Dublin "Keep it secret, keep it safe" This year the MAKESHOP caravan at Trailer Park will be a giant safe that festival attendees will have to crack the code to enter. Once inside, they can participate in soldering workshops and some festival-friendly scientific demos based around Science Gallery Dublin's exhibition, SECRET. Created by Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, MAKESHOP is for everyone from novices to advanced makers, young to old.
