COMMON NAMES OF TOXIC OR POISONOUS PLANTS
Providing a safe environment for child care includes consideration of the plants that children may
come into contact with during their time spent in your care.
Some plants contain toxins and are poisonous. Children, in particular, are at special risk. Not only
are children naturally curious and more likely to ingest plants during play, but their smaller bodies
react adversely to small amounts of toxins. For example, a single leaf of the common house plant
Philodendron ingested by a child can be fatal.
Children must be prevented from consuming these plants or their fruit!
