in a single room in Uthiru. Hails from Unity state in
South Sudan and has been in Kenya since 2004 with no
contact with other family members. Father died in
war.Looking forward to reunion with family after F4.

Age: 19 years
First born lives with single mom in Kawangware with
four other siblings. All other family members study at
Sud.
She is grateful for free education opportunity at Sud.
Name: Bantu Mangek
Age: 24 years
Avoga Loydah
Age: 18 years
Kenyan girl raised in a foster home, brought to Sud for
further education after home was shut down after
being mismanaged. Lives with a well-wisher who took
her in to enable her attend school in Sud in
Kawangware. Avoga has two other younger sisters who
live in Mathare slums with her single mom.
Escaped warring Sudan after death of father to live in
daadab refugee camp for three years with mom and
five other siblings. Brought to Nairobi by an uncle who
enrolled him at Sud in 2006.During holidays he visits the
refugee camp to see his family that still lives there.

Name: Daniel Makur Mayom
Age: 23 years old
Age: 25 years
He is the eldest in a family of five. One younger brother
graduated last year (kadogo ring) and left for Juba. He is
in charge of his siblings while in Nairobi and receives
support from their single mom who lives and works in
South Sudan. He hopes to finish school andgo back to
hunt for a job to support his little sisters in Nbi.
Born in Akot Payam S.Sudan, Makur is 3rd born in a
family of four. His family arrived in Kakuma refugee
camp in 1990 after the loss of their father and got
registration with UNHCR. The mother died at the camp
after a short illness. They were moved to kawangware
by a relative who enrolled them in Sud. Makur is a very
bright kid being ahead in F4 while his elder brothers in
F3 & F2. He is currently the captain of the soccer team.
Daniel Deng Yel – 18 years old.
Daniel Deng was separated from his family at age six
during the war, ended up in Kakuma camp and later in
Kawangware with the help of some friends. At the
moment his spirit is high hoping to finish high school
this year head back after 12 years with two other boys
he lives with. Teachers say he is the best performing
among the boys academically. He is a smartly dressed
student always.
Gatluak Gatwech – 27 years old.
He lives with his mother in Kawangware Slums. He is an
active student leader and very talented always involved
in sports representing the school.
Hanson Simiyu – 19years.
John Komo Dee – 24years.
A Kenyan, third born living with a single mother with 9
children, Hanson has been to six other schools before
landing in Sud year 2011. He is excited to be the first to
go through high school in his family.
Komo is the only child that got to attend school after
the demise of both their parents. His two other
brothers and one sister are married and running their
families back in South Sudan. He hopes to finish high
school and at least join college before leaving for south
Sudan.
Clinton Oduor – 18years.
A Kenyan living depending on his disabled father who
runs cereals grocery on a street in Kawangware, Clinton
is first born out of a seven. Their mother passed on five
years ago. He believes he is going to be a successful
man after high school and does an accounting course.
Kavilole Gillian – 18years.
Kenyan girl living with widowed mother with two other
younger sisters. She has been attending Sud for the past
three years. She is ever smiling and thankful for the
opportunity she has at Sud.
Lual Chau Nyuan – 19 years old.
Jenifer Auma – 21years old.
Raised by a single mother in South Sudan and sent to
Kenya to study at Sud. 2013 is his 7th year in Sud since
joining in 2006. He is supported by his mother while in
Kenya.
Kenyan girl who grew upcountry and move to Nairobi
with a relative after both her parents passed on in one
year of 2006. Her five other siblings are scattered
among other well-wishers in various parts of Kenya.
Lucas Anei Atak – 21years.
Mach Magot Mach – 18years
Lucas joined Sud academy in 2010and on several
occasions he has faced the possibility of early return to
his homeland before completing high school. Currently
he is hosted at a church in Uthiru from where he
attends school. He is glad that his journey is almost over
and will go back an educated man.
A South Sudanese boy living in Uthiru at a church in
custody of a Kenyan Pastor. He is an orphan with one
sister back in South Sudan whom he hasn’t been in
contact with. He arrived in Nairobi in the same group
with Lucas Anei. From the Church in Uthiru, they
comfortably walks the three kilometer distance back
and forth for education at Sud.
Ngereza Geoffrey – 19 years.
Name: Rebecca Nyandeng Ring – 18 years.
Ngereza is the lastborn in a family of ten. He lived
upcountry (600km west) where he finished primary
school and came to live with his aunt in Kawangware
who brought him to Sud academy. He is an orphan.
Born in a refugee camp in Northern Kenya with three
other siblings. Started her education at the camp then
came to Nairobi to seek medical attention and later
found an opportunity to join Sud after her family settled
in Kawangware. Rebecca has never been to South
Sudan so all she knows about it she has learnt from
others at Sud. She is the school headgirl.
Philip Manyok Ben
Manyok has had his education at sud academy from
std6 in 2007 up to now he is in F4. He says he is a big
beneficiary having received parallel support for utilities
and rent from friends of the school. He hails from a
family of five children who lost their dad while they
were still young. He is grateful for huge efforts from
various people have put into build him up. Hopes
someday to go back to SS and be a teacher.
Santino Buol Marial – 22years.
The only boy and third born in a family of eight, he is
the only one in school and believes he has responsibility
to go back and educate his sisters. An uncle at Kakuma
camp picked him from a village in Rumbek and brought
him to Nairobi to join Sud in F1. He lives with other
South Sudanese boys on support from this uncle who
went back to Rumbek.

Irene Makungu
Lost his dad when he was 4 years old.
She is an orphan. Lives with a well wisher in
Kawangware Slums.
Mum in south Sudan with his younger brother.
Anticipates going back to S. Sudan once he is through
with secondary education.
Irene is one of the few Kenyans schooling at Sud. She is
grateful for the education opportunity.
He loves God above all things.
Mangar Makes Gumwel
Mangou Lual Yak
He is 24 years of Age. Brother to one sister. His dad is
alive and sends him support while in S.Sudan.
21 years of age with 3 siblings without a father.
2003 got into Kakuma refugee camp where he began his
primary schooling. In 2007 he joined Sud Academy in
class 6. He says 2013 will be his last year in Kenya after
sitting for his KCSE exams.
Insecurity at camp led to him separating with his family
landing in Nairobi 2006 and later in the year joined class
4 at Sud Academy. He has faithfully attended lessons
since.
He joined class 1 in Kakuma refugee camp in 2001.
Chuol Michael Gathiok Thieng’ – 25years.
Chuol served as a child soldier and witnessed some of
his family members die in the war who included his dad
and some uncles. Came into Loki for medical attention
after getting shot in his leg. Later he went to Kakuma
cam p and started his education. He moved to live with a
cousin in Kawangware when UN was repatriating
refugees in his camp section. 2006 he joined Sud in std6
and has since survived through thick and thin as he
attended class.
Miriam Perus - 18years
She is a Kenyan girl living with her elderly mother in
Kangemi area. She is the only girl attending school in a
family of six.
This is his last year and his prayer is the Lord will keep
touching all supporters of Sud that many more students
will be able to achieve their dreams.
Tesloach Bichiok Wur – 22 years
Orphaned at an early age . Joined Sud in 2009 as a
candidate in std8 after attending primary in Kakuma
refugee camp. For him life is good among other South
Sudanese despite the separation from his family. He only
knows his mom and sister are alive after hearing the
death of his father four years ago. In Nairobi, his only
worry is food and shelter, since his education is being
taken care of by lovely Trisa!
