Junk Mail and GWAVA Digest

Mascoutah CUSD 19 **SPAM** Email Handling Using GWAVA Digest
MCUSD 19 is deploying a new **SPAM** email system. The system
on our server (GWAVA) will set aside any messages tagged as
**SPAM** and will send you a DIGEST email three times per day at
5 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM showing all **SPAM** messages you received.
You may release them if you wish.
What does the email look like?
Mailbox:
What should I do with this email?
Review the list of email senders. If you recognize a sender and feel the email is not
**SPAM** but rather a legitimate email, then you may release it.
If you review the senders and feel they are all **SPAM** then just delete the GWAVA Message Restriction
Digest email. When the GWAVA Message Restriction Digest email is deleted, all of the emails listed in the
message are also deleted.
How do I release an email from the restriction?
Click
Release button to the right of the email you wish to release. This email will be delivered
to your mailbox in a few minutes. (Sometimes up to 10 minutes if the system is busy)
After releasing an email, the message to the right appears.
Click
to close and allow the delivery.
If you are using web access to check and release email,
the window may not close. Just click the [X] in upper right
corner to close window. The message should still release
to your mailbox within a few minutes.

Why don’t you just delete the **SPAM** and not send me the email?
Identifying which emails should be classified as **SPAM** is a challenging job. What might appear to be
**SPAM** to one person, could be a legitimate email to another. So rather than the tech staff making the call
on which emails are valid and which are not, the control has been given to you – the intended receiver of the
email. Then each user can manage their email and choose to review and release as needed.
The software threshold can be raised and lowered as needed. As we lower the threshold in an effort to block
more **SPAM**, it is more likely that legitimate emails will be flagged as **SPAM** and could be accidentally
deleted.
Does this **SPAM** software work when using email at home – over the Internet
Yes, it should work the same way. Occasionally the
button may appear not to work. If that
happens, just close the window using the [X] in the upper right hand corner. The email should be released to
your mailbox within a few minutes.
Can I get the digest email more than once per day?
Yes, currently it comes three times per day. 5AM, 11AM, 2PM.
What should I do if I am expecting an email from someone outside the district and it is not
being delivered to my mailbox?
First, wait until the next GWAVA Message Restriction Digest email is delivered and check to see if the
expected email is on the digest list. If so, Release it and it will be sent to the mailbox
If the message does not appear in the GWAVA Message Restriction Digest email, then submit an Online Work
Order and provide a brief description of the problem and the email address of the sender. The Tech staff will
respond as soon as possible.
What if I am not getting the GWAVA DIGEST emails?
If you are not receiving the GWAVA digest emails, then one of two things is occurring.
1. You are not on any junk email lists (highly unlikely)
2. You may have inadvertently blocked email from [email protected] in your
GroupWise Junk Mail filter. To fix this, turn off your Junk mail handling in GroupWise. Steps follow:
a. In your GroupWise mailbox, From the TOOLS menu, choose “Junk Mail Handling”
b. On the settings tab
UNCHECK enable junk list
UNCHECK enable junk mail
UNCHECK enable junk mail folder
UNCHECK enable block list
c. Click [APPLY], then click [OK]
3. If you have a JUNK MAIL folder in GroupWise, please check it occasionally to see if your GWAVA
Digest emails are being put in it accidentally.
4. If you still do not receive the GWAVA Digest emails – submit Online Work Order
