Scope description
When Leiv Eiriksson left the Westcon yard at the beginning of December 2009
after a one month stay the rig had been transformed. During the yardstay period
the upper part of the derrick had been carefully detached, skidded over to a
jacking frame, jacked down to the deck and sea fastened ready for the rig's
journey down to Turkey.
This operation was necessary for Leiv Eiriksson to be able to pass under the
bridges in the Bosporus Straits on the way to a multiyear contract in the Black
Sea.
In addition to the work on the derrick also thrusters were removed, overhauled
and reinstalled and the external part of the exhaust system was replaced. Further
maintenance and improvement work was also performed whilst the rig was
quayside.
A small number of personnel were on board Leiv Eiriksson on departure from
Ølensvåg and for the trip under the bridges in the Bosporus.
During January 2010 the Westcon project personnel joined the rig for the
reinstatement of the top of the derrick.
