Chris Duncan, Merage JCC Aquatic Director, oversees all aspects of the JCC’s swimming programs. Chris has more than 20 years of progressively responsible experience instructing as many as 10,000 swimmers in all capacities of aquatics. Chris leads swimmers through a lifetime of swimming skills, water safety and competitive training for all ages. He provides superior instruction for adults and children who are first learning to swim and those who are mastering their stroke techniques. Chris is a lifetime member of the America Swim Coaches Association. Gina Duncan, Merage JCC Assistant Aquatic Director, oversees the training of all swimmers 12 and under and has put the JCC’s team in the top five, three years in a row, for the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympics. Gina works one-on-one in lessons with top swimmers so they become the best in the nation. Gina regularly trains the 9-12 year old group and her successes include a lifetime 10 swimmers on the USA Swimming National ranking list with five current JCC Waves swimmers added to her tally this year. Instructors will work with you or your children to create an individualized program that meets your or your child’s specific needs. We are happy to try to accommodate requests for new classes. JCC Membership is required to use the pool. Cancellation Policy: Please reschedule within 24 hours of the lesson. Packages expire 1 year from purchase. The Merage JCC WAVES swimming team offers both competitive and noncompetitive tracks for swimmers to follow once they finish with swim lessons. Chasin Aquatics Center The Merage JCC Aquatics Center offers something for members of every age and experience level, including swim lessons, youth swim team, low impact water aerobics and lap swimming. Our pool facilities are fully-equipped with an electronic scoreboard, heated toddler pool, Jacuzzi, professional lifeguards and custom lounge chairs and shade area. J Children’s Private Swim Lessons, Ages 3+ Day and time to be scheduled with the Aquatics Center $240 for eight 20-minute sessions, $296 for eight 30-minute sessions Private lessons help to further your child’s ability at his/her own pace. We specialize in individual attention through one-on-one teaching with our staff, who will design lessons to fit a swimmer’s needs and learning style. Children’s Semi-Private Swim Lessons, Ages 3+ Day and time to be scheduled with the Aquatics Center. $200 for eight 30-minute sessions Semi-private lessons allow your child to learn to swim with a friend or sibling. This create-a-class program offers lessons tailored to your lifestyle. Specialized Swim Lessons Day and time to be scheduled with the Aquatics Center $185 for five 30-minute sessions We have specialized classes for children who have great fear and apprehension of the water, and for children with special needs. Beginning with basic water safety, our experienced instructors guide children to feel safe and comfortable in the water as they learn to be confident swimmers. If the number of lap swimmers exceeds 2 per lane please switch to circle swimming. Children may lap swim adhering to these guidelines and, if necessary, accompanied by a responsible adult. Please note: there is limited lane space available during the swim team work out between 3:30-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 3-5:30 p.m. on Fridays; and 12-3 p.m. Sundays. Water Fitness Classes Join the fun of exercising in the water! The natural buoyancy of the water holds up to 90% of your body weight making exercise less stressful to your muscles and joints while providing a terrific workout. Low Impact Water Aerobics, 18+ Mon & Thurs 9-10 a.m., Sat 9:30-10:30 a.m. Increase your strength, flexibility and aerobic conditioning through water exercises without putting stress on your joints and muscles. This low impact class is geared for people with arthritis or osteoporosis. Aqua Fitness Wed 10:15-11:15 a.m. Free to JCC Members (age 18+) Burn calories and move to the beat in ways you never thought you could in this high energy fun class. Water Pilates, 18+ Fri 9-10 a.m. This program adapts Pilates exercises for the pool. Elongate the entire body with unique conditioning exercises. Build a stronger core, develop strength and flexibility while focusing on breathing for exercise and energy enhancement. Water Pilates appeals to wide spectrum of ages and fitness levels. Modifications are addressed with most exercises.
