The 5th Amendment gives you the right to five things:
 The right to remain silent
 Protects you from double jeopardy
 The right to due process
 The right to self-incrimination
 Protects you from eminent domain
Miranda v. Arizona (1966) – Article handed out in class (attached)
Questions for Homework:

In your notebook, or on a sheet of paper, write a 1 page essay explaining why you think the
Supreme Court should reconsider the Miranda Rights. You should provide three examples from
the reading to support your argument.
6th / 7th / 8th Amendment Notes:

6th Amendment – The right to a fair and speedy trial.
7th Amendment – The right to a trial by jury.
8th Amendment – Protects you from cruel and unusual punishment.

constitution guaranteed the 6th & 7th amendments to the constitution. Provide three examples
to support your argument. Use your textbook and/or the “We the People” textbook to assist
you in your argument.
