Bright’s Creek - Best Equestrian
Community of the Year
Who knew that when development of Bright’s Creek began back in the early 2000’s, the
foothills of Western North Carolina would become an equestrian mecca, specifically in the town
of Tryon, located about 15 miles south of Bright’s Creek. Although Tryon is not right around the
corner from Bright’s Creek, being this close to the World’s Largest Equestrian Facility owned by
Mark Bellissimo is priceless to an equine enthusiast. Tyron is not saturated with master planned
communities, so it’s natural to look towards Hendersonville for gated equestrian
communities that have hiking with waterfalls.
Bright’s Creek has endured many changes in ownership over the years and has had a sluggish
start compared to similar North Carolina mountain communities. The gated community saw a lot
of interest over the four years (2008-2011) when the gated community was host to the BMW
Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament. We’ve played the championship Tom Fazio golf course and
yes, it’s beautiful. But what we’ve always had our eye on at Bright’s Creek is the potential for
the equestrian facility to be the community’s leading amenity.
This year during our visit, we found the center to be immaculately clean, full of boarded horses
and we observed new improvements to the facility. Since 2014, $100,000 was invested in the
center which included new jumps, security and paddock upgrades. The center offers three types
of monthly boarding services. Here’s a full overview of the equestrian center’s features:

Alicia Sama is the senior Equestrian Trainer and has been on staff since October 2014. One of
the smart enhancements to the program is the community’s Equestrian Hospitality Package. It’s
the only one we've seen offered at equestrian communities in the South. Call it a Bed &
Breakfast or Discovery Package for you and your horse. Visitors enjoy the comfort of a spacious
Lodge Room, a continental breakfast each morning and access to all Bright's Creek's guest
amenities which includes hiking with waterfalls. And for the horse, he or she enjoys…


The gated community spread across 4,700 acres is home to an award winning championship
Tom Fazio golf course, a Member’s Lodge, a delicious restaurant and the new BMW Off-Road
Excursions. Still on the drawing board - a two story clubhouse, outdoor swimming pool, tennis
courts and fitness center. To us, the topography is very appealing. The equestrian center and golf
course are set in a valley surrounded by a mountain ridge, all which are part of the community.
Elevations range from 1,000 to 3,200 feet. The 15 miles of horse trails lead to waterfalls, lush
forest and along the Green River. All of these make up an exciting combination of outdoor
amenities in one of the best North Carolina mountain communities.
Although the gated community has only 45 homes built to date of the 500 planned, this could be
an ideal time to secure a land parcel to build a home near the equestrian center and/or near hiking
with waterfalls.
We’re fans of Bright’s Creek and always have been. Even though the gated community is off the
beaten path, they have done a great job maintaining and improving the equestrian center,
therefore we honor Bright's Creek with our 2016 Bliss Award for Best Equestrian Community of
the Year.
