ENTRY CONDITIONS
1.1
All competitors must be NATD Medallists and have taken the respective Ballroom and Latin
Examination during the 18 months prior to this competition.

a) 18 months starts from the 1 January of previous year of the Grand Final
1.2
Any pupil, who is registered with the BDC for Open Competitions will not be Eligible to dance in any
NATD Medal Competitions.
1.3
Competitors can only enter competitions appropriate to the highest grade they have achieved in the
NATD.
a) If further NATD examinations taken after Qualification but before Grand Final the Competitor
dances in the section, they originally qualified in.
1.4
A Juvenile becomes Junior on his/her twelfth birthday. Junior becomes an Adult on his/her sixteenth
birthday.
a)
If Qualifier has a Birthday moving them into a higher age group, between Qualifying Heats or
Grand Final, they are to dance in the age group they originally qualified in until after the Grand
Final.
1.5
Children may dance in the Rainbow Section for as many years as they wish, until they are 8 years old.

a) If before the child’s 8 Birthday they take the ‘Rainbow Pot of Gold’ or any other ‘non-rainbow’
exam up to (NOT including) Bronze, they may continue to enter the Rainbow Section.
b) If a Child under 8 years old (7 and under), takes a Bronze Medal or above they will need to dance
in the Juvenile Section irrelevant of their actual age.
1.6
Competitors may only dance in the Pre-Bronze section for a maximum of two consecutive years.
1.7
When changing age groups:
a) The pupil has only obtained Pre-Bronze status they may start at Pre-Bronze of the next
age group.
b) If a pupil has taken a Bronze or Silver Medal as a Juvenile they will have to compete in the Junior
Bronze Ex-Juvenile or Silver Ex-Juvenile.
c) If a pupil has taken a Bronze or Silver Medal as Junior, they will have to compete in Adult Bronze
Ex-Junior, Silver Ex-Junior.

Changing Schools:
If after qualifying a pupil changes school, they will be required to take exams with the new school and
re-qualify. There may be some exceptions which would have to have agreement of both schools
involved.

PREVIOUS WINNERS

All previous winners (1 ) of a Qualifying Event - Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Silver and Gold competitions are
not allowed to compete in that event for a second year.
a) If less than 6 competitors in an event, the above rule will not apply

All Winners (1 ) of the Grand Final Events will be required to move up to the next Grade prior to
dancing in the next Qualifying Event.
a) If less than 6 competitors in an event, the above rule will not apply.

Medal Competition Dress

JUVENILE: All Juvenile competitors must comply with British Dance Council Rule 53a
JUNIOR and ALL ADULT age groups: There are no dress restrictions except Tail Suits, which are not
permitted.
4 Partnering
Solo Events:
4.1
Competitors can be partnered by an amateur or Professional Partner.
4.1.1 Partnering with more than one person is at the discretion of the school concerned, but pairing with
more than one competitor in any one heat is at the discretion of the organiser. Only ONE CHANGE
per heat will be allowed.
Couples Events:
4.2
Partner changes will only be allowed with prior consent of the organisers where at least one dancer
would otherwise be unable to enter any of the competitions; under no circumstances will any dancer be
allowed to enter the same event more than once.
4.3
JUNIOR/JUVENILES COUPLES EVENTS
a) Couples can be Boy/Girl or Girl/Girl.
b) The couple must enter the highest grade of the partnership.
c) The couple to dance in the age group of the eldest
d) A Juvenile may dance with a junior to accommodate a partnership, but must dance at the Junior
Grade. This will not affect the status of the Juvenile in, their own competition.

The age of the younger partner will determine the age group in which the couple compete.
The couple must enter the highest grade of the partnership.
All lady couples may elect to dance in either the Medallist Couples section of their age group or the All
Ladies Couples Section.
A junior may dance with an Adult to accommodate a partnership, but must dance at the Adult Grade.
This will not affect the status of the Junior in their own competition.
SYLLABUS RESTRICTION
All Juveniles events: Competitors may only dance those figures listed in the current NATD syllabus up
to and including Fellowship figures.
Junior & Adult Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Silver, & Gold events: Competitors may only dance those figures
listed in the current NATD syllabus up to and including Fellowship figures.
Above Gold no restrictions apply.
TEAM MATCHES
All team members must be Bona-Fide members of the School they are competing for and have taken
their last medal with that School.
A School may enter as many teams as they like, however, a couple cannot represent two teams in the
same event.
If a School finds that it is a Team Member or Members short on the day of the competition then they
may use a pupil or pupils from another school in order that the rest of the team can still compete, but
must forfeit any placing they receive.
A Juvenile couple may dance in the Junior Section to complete a team. This will not forfeit any placing
they receive.
An Over 35 couple may dance in the Under 35 Section to complete a team. This will not forfeit any
placing they receive.
No dress or syllabus restrictions apply in any age group of the Team Matches.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT

These may be used with the permission of the organiser.
All other competitions, i.e. Social competitions, parent and child, fun dances, or any other organised
event, the rules will be set by the organiser.

An award will be presented to all finalists of each of the medallist events.
