Parent LOV Notes
2015-2016 Issue #20
Our Motto: Excellence, Honor and Service
School Mission: To educate and build character in the total child
What’s Going on in the Building?
We are planning to celebrate Black History Month starting with a performing arts assembly on February
2nd and then following with some trivia and prizes throughout the month by way of morning
announcements. We want to expand knowledge every opportunity we can get and our students are
excited to be a part of knowledge based competitions. Thanks to Regina Abernathy for orchestrating the
month’s plan and Ms. Adair for organizing the assembly.
What Parents Need to Know
8th Grade Parents:
All Georgia eighth grade Social Studies teachers are required, under the Georgia
Performance Standards, to “explain the seven delinquent behaviors that can subject juvenile offenders to
the adult criminal justice process, how the decision to transfer to adult court is made, and the possible
consequences.” This is known as the “Seven Deadly Sins.” Because this information is part of a required
performance standard, it may appear on the Georgia Studies portion of the GA Milestones at the end of
the school year. We will have an on campus “field trip” on Friday, February 12th. An experienced attorney
(recommended by the county), will visit our school to teach this sensitive material. This will take place in
the auditorium. Students will be recieiving an OPT OUT letter this week. Please return the form if you do
not want your child to participate. Please understand that if a form is not returned, the student will attend
the presentation. Please feel free to contact administration if you have any questions.
Parents/Guardians: Please be reminded that it is very important to your parent/guardian contact
information up to date. Keep in mind that the current enrollment form is our only method for accurately
updating this information. Any time you have a change of address, phone number or email it is vital that
you inform the school of changes immediately. You may come in person or in writing. ONLY THE
ENROLLING ADULT CAN UPDATE STUDENT INFORMATION. Emergency contact information should be
current at all times as well. Thanks for your assistance with this matter.
6th Grade Parents:
We want to give you advance notice that all students entering 7th grade
MUST have an up to date immunization form (GA 3231) that is complete for 7th grade. As
required by Georgia Law, the up to date form must be given to the school on or before August 1,
2016 in order for students to remain enrolled in school. Take advantage of the heads up and check
this off of your “To do” list. Thanks for your cooperation.

With 8th grade being a gateway year, please note the retention policy’s expectation for students to
pass both math and reading of the GA milestones in order to be promoted. The reading score is
measured as a Lexile on the milestones. Please see the link below for an understanding of that
score.

Reflections That Benefit Us All
I am amazed at the talent in our school. Our students are just
wonderful. I want to showcase some of the talent and will plan to
do that by way of LOV Notes. You have to know just what jewels we
have in our building. I am just proud of them and want you to
know!
