HONORING CHARLES H. (TIM) MCCOY
It was a special treat on Saturday, June 11, for Teena and me to join with numerous others, including dozens from ABC, in
honoring Tim McCoy for his brave and heroic military service in the United States Navy during World War II. Tim has not
been able to participate in the Honor Flight program that takes WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the memorials
there, so Honor Flight Austin brought the program to him at Westminster where Tim and his wife Jean live. They have
been married 69 years!
Many of you know Tim’s story but for those who don’t: Tim, who served in the submarine force, is a decorated veteran and
a former prisoner of war. In April 1943, McCoy was aboard the USS Grenadier when the submarine was attacked and
damaged by an enemy plane. The crew was able to make emergency repairs and raise the submarine to the surface, but it
was detected by a Japanese ship. He and the crew on board were captured. He was held in a POW camp until liberation at
the end of the war. Tim served in the Navy for more than 24 years and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart,
along with other military awards. He truly is an American hero. He is also our dear friend. Tim’s leadership and encouragement—his “can-do” spirit played a pivotal role in the strong beginning of Austin Baptist Church. He misses not being able
to attend in person right now, but every Sunday, he, Jean, and their son watch us via Livestream. Tim, we are proud of you!

New Lamplighter Members
Alan & Susie Bullington
joined our church in the 11:11 service on June 26. Alan by
believer’s baptism and Susie by statement of faith. Both of
them are from Odessa, Texas; they met as college students.
Alan earned a degree in petroleum engineering from The
University of Texas; Susie attended Texas State university in
San Marcos.
Susie’s brother was Alan’s best friend and introduced them.
They married in 1973 during her final semester and immediately moved overseas for Alan’s work as an engineer. He is
now retired after a career with Houston-based Noble Energy. They moved to Vineyard Bay eight years ago. Mary
Lee, longtime teacher of a Bible sturdy in Vineyard Bay, invited them to ABC. The Bullingtons have two grown daughters and two grandchildren.

How they met...this is another story of how Joseph and Anne Bierschbach met and then were wed.

Joseph and Anne met on April 8, 2006 after having found each
other on-line back when Yahoo personals were the way to get
acquainted.
At the time, Joseph lived in Georgetown, and Anne lived in
Austin. Joseph worked on the toll road as a crane operator, and
didn’t really have a lot of time, nor inclination, to go out to
physically meet someone, and same was true for Anne, who
moved to Austin from California in 2003. Her friends back in
California finally convinced her that she needed to go on a dating website, and Yahoo personals were it. So, she joined on a
Sunday afternoon. Next day, after a doctor’s appointment, she
was in her car praying to God to not go through life alone, and
when she came home from work that Monday, TADAH...Joseph had left her a message to contact him through that
very website...so she did.It was love at first “listen”. They talked for hours on the phone, and every day after that. They
were to meet at a restaurant that very Saturday, but instead, Anne invited Joseph over to her apartment so he could take
her to dinner at the Oasis. It was then love at first sight. Joseph knew he was home the moment she opened her door,
and over dinner they agreed that they were a couple. They have been inseparable ever since. Though it has “only” been
10 years, those years have been filled with big, life-altering moments and because God always lead the way, and answered prayers, even the toughest times were filled with blessings and sprinkled with bliss. Today they live with their
two cats Pumpkin and Giorgio, celebrating the beauty of life, while pursuing success in their businesses: Joseph being
a professional photographer and Anne a Voice Over Talent.
Currently, Joseph volunteers to drive the Golf Cart to bring folks from the parking lot to church building and Anne
sings in the choir and is on the Lord’s Supper Committee. During VBS, Joseph served as doorman. Joseph and Anne
will be also be chairing our Monthly Luncheons while Latrell and Jean Bellard are away.
