JOB TITLE: DC General Shift Manager (8am-4pm, 4pm-12am and 12am-8am)
JOB TYPE: Full Time/Part Time, Hourly Position
REPORTS TO: Shelter Operations Supervisor
Position General Description: The Shift Manager Supervises 10-15 employees during their shift. The
shift manager requires an ability to efficiently multi-task, a capability to confidently delegate work to
others, excellent customer service skills, and strong leadership qualities.
Responsibilities:
 Treats Families with dignity and respect at all times
 Communicates, complies with, and enforces all shelter rules, policies, and procedures
 Ability to resolve resident and/or staff issues and conflicts
 Ensure rooms are prepared for new family placements
 Report all maintenance issues to DCG Facility Liaison
 Calls in replacements in the event of an employee call-in or no-show
 Assign Residential Monitors to floors
 Reports employee behavioral issues, resident complaints, and other significant issues to upper
level management
 Issue corrective actions for unsatisfactory staff performance
 Review daily shift exchanges to ensure the correct information is communicated to the next shift
 Enforces the proper disciplinary measures when subordinate employees fail to adhere to policy
and procedures
 Responsible for ensuring curfew checks are completed correctly
 Report curfew concerns to appropriate staff ( Tracking Officer, Shelter Director)
 Check daily vacancies
 Responsible for viewing floor logs and collecting activity logs during their shift
 Ensures all units are in compliance with the Unit Protocol Management Policy
 Assign new families to units and make necessary room transfers or as directed
 Report security issues or concerns
 Attend monthly staff meetings
 Participate in resident meetings
 Attend all required trainings
 Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Competency Required:
 High School diploma or equivalent
 Excellent customer service, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
 Ability to operate basic office equipment
 Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality
 Ability to work effectively under pressure
Working Conditions
 The employee will have direct contact with residents, supervisors, and employees
 Occasional environmental exposure to cold, heat, and water
 The employee must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds
regularly
