 SCSD Grade 5 Reading Unit 1: Overcoming Adversity ~25 instructional days/6 weeks Unit Focus: Students use a lens of adversity to explore meaningful characters who face different challenges. Through close reading and discussion, students examine how characters are crafted and how different story elements are similar and different across a text.
