Minutes Yorkdale SCC – Tuesday Dec 13, 2016 Attendees: Greg Litvani, Lindsay Allin, Faith Hedley, Florence Stachura, Carrie Morrison, Oriahna Rhinas, Shawn Beatty, Joanna Baranieski, Sandra Diduck Regrets: Raquel McLennan, Richelle MacDonald, Kevin Sawatsky Old Business: Minutes from AGM passed and read New Business: Discussion of SCC Symposium: Members who attended did not find information relevant to bettering the practices of our own SCC. While statistics are interesting, members were hoping to gain applicable hands on information. Florence will take this feedback to the board. Pizza and activity Day: Pizza will be coming from 2 for 1 pizza. We are purchasing the pizzas for $12.50 and will be cutting them into 10 slices per pizza. We are selling for $3 for the first piece with a drink and orange included and additional pieces will be sold for $2 per piece. A few extra pizzas will be purchased at our cost for parent helpers. Christmas Concert: Greg is going to sell leftover cookbooks at concert. School Clothing: Supply of clothing is dwindling. We are looking at possibly an out of town source as students would like some different options. Financial Report: Faith Our playground loan is officially paid off. The balance in our SCC account is $2137.62. Our service charges are $2 per month. Principals Report: Shaune ‐Foot and mouth disease has been confirmed at our school. Custodians are doing some extra sanitizing to keep the classrooms clean. ‐Literacy: Student led conferences went well. We have heard both some positives and negatives from parents. ‐Attendance letters: Letters have gone out to parents, and Administration has gotten some parent feedback. This is positive, showing parents are aware of attendance issues and willing to communicate with the school and providing explanations. Mental Health: Jan 26, 2017, Mental Health will be visiting our school and doing age appropriate presentations for both the younger grades and our senior students. Parent Pick ups: There has been an ongoing issue with parents coming too early to pick up their kids. Parents visiting in the hallways is distracting to both students and teachers. There are safety and security issues behind it as well. We are adopting a mandate that no parents are to come into school to pick up their children before 3:15pm. Mr Beatty gave parents the opportunity to come to this meeting and voice concerns if they had them, and no parents attended. French Discussion: Currently only eight students that were offered French, choose not to take it. Additional Information: Greg highlighted information from the symposium. One Student from cross country went to Nationals. Many students are involved in both soccer and football at a provincial level. Representatives from all schools went through level 2 crisis intervention. Every school has a threat team to deal with any violence issues. We currently have approx. 2,600 students using our bus transportation system. Our SCC did submit possible discussion topics for the symposium and none were discussed. Mostly statistical information. Next meeting Jan 10, 2017 Carrie motioned to close meeting. Meeting adjourned
